Does anyone rebuild wastegates?

I have wastegates with the upgraded springs and I recently had to turn one of them quite a bit more than the other in order to get even opening. I think one has a failed diaphram.

Does anyone here rebuild/repair wastegates?

How much 'quite a bit more'? As I recall, the sides should be 'off' by 1.5mm or so, which can be a bunch of turns.

If a diaphragm has a hole, it will not hold pressure period, and will not open. You would also get air rushing out of the hole around the shaft.

my 2 cents. I'd check with some turbo vendor/tuners for spares... one I spoke to said they sometimes have a few.

ard,

Previously, the both wastegates were set-up to crack at the same pressure. Something changed with one of them and it required turning the nut 1/2" to get equal opening again. Something is wrong with that wastegate, maybe I have a broken or worn out spring - I am not sure exactly what it is..I am looking for someone that can take it apart, identify the problem and properly repair it.

One half INCH? Yikes... Which way did you need to move the rod?

I think if your spring broke, then there is less resisting force, and you would have had to move the adjusting nut towards the wastegate (thereby pre-loading that broken spring back to where it should have been).

I did Kevins kit, twice...did it for another 6speeder. No special wastegate parts here (other than 4 stock springs )- and that diaphragm is indeed a bit unusual.

With the UMW kit, you can just disassemble and look inside... I assume yours are some other kind?

Adam,

It had to be tightened towards the wastegate.

I have the UMW wastegates with the aluminum clamps, so I will be able to open them easily and look inside - I just want to be sure if I open them, that I have someone in place to repair them.

Should be stainless clamps.

I am pretty sure Kevin would send you a spring, maybe even before you open them just in case. he might even have a spare diaphragm w/rod.

Adam,

It is whatever metal Kevin uses for the two piece clamp. I have emailed Kevin, as I purchased the product directly from him, but I received no reply, so I am trying to find someone that can handle this for me. The car is running fine and remains balanced, but it's something I feel should be done before it needs adjustment again.
