I heard that the 02 and up have a revised intermediate shaft, but from what I've read here that is not true.

Only difference on the 01 is the lack of glovebox- anything else mechanical?

I ask because I'm looking at a 01 with 56k miles on it tomorrow. I've been looking for 02 and up, but this may be a REALLY good deal...

Be careful of REALLY good deals, even more so now that we aren't on the verge of a Depression. (Well, I'm depressed, but that's neither here nor there.) Make sure you give the car a thorough lookover, as you usually get what you pay for. If you're paying for a car with an engine that costs more than houses in some corners of this country, look it over twice to make sure you know what you're buying.

At some point Porsche went to a case that is was cast in Spain ("Spanish Case").

My 01 has been indestructible, keep good oil in it at all times and always warm it
up and you will have a friend for life

I think P went to the Spanish case for model year 2004. I also understand there are minor changes in later 996TT engines.
