Straight pipe 996 turbo? Anybody try?
actually the X-pipe causes more restriction than an H-pipe which causes none. The X-pipe actually causes gas flows to cross each other. In some cases this can cause turbulence.
The H-pipe does not have gas streams cross each other. The only thing it is there for is for pressure balancing between the two exhaust sides. This balancing somehow seems to cancel a lot of drone out as well.
The X-pipe systems you see like Markski and UMW and a few others appear to be U-pipes put together, which is similar in idea to an H pipe. The exhaust flows are actually making a U turn with some overlap, and lots of pressure balancing. A true x-pipe is much different and unless you are using very large pipe diameters can cause much more restriction.
HC if you are asking me, it weighed 23 lbs. The old metal mounting brackets had to be a lb by themselves. The kamira 100 cell cats are ridiculously light. The race mufflers are not much heavier than straight pipe.
Burns is great!! They are a bit expensive. i Think Vibrant ( a Canadian company) would do the trick! I just got there 2010 catalog and they have tons of serious fab materials.
no they weren't burns because that would have put my cost way over the edge. But they were very good quality that my local shop gets. This shop does top quality work exhausts on exotics as well as track cars etc.
The exhaust is 3 inch to the last muffler, then tapers to 2.5 inch to the tips. So through all the restriction areas it is 3 inch piping.
here is a link to their site and they have added my car to it..lol. Good sell for them as their are many turbos in the area.

Still for sale? Will they fit a 2002 996TT with Fabspeed Exhaust?

I CAN'T HEARRR YOUUUUU!?!!? That's what you'll be saying after you go deaf from the horrible sounding, throttle response taking away, and low end torque robbing straight pipes.. Worst modification especially for a car driven on the street! Don't be fooled, turbos don't muffle anything, trust me it is obnoxious, and I had a previous SC M3 with no cat's, straight pipes, no resonators , etc!
The sound is loud, but it's even more intrusive than it is loud, my old Corvette was much louder, but didn't buzz in my ear as much, I don't know what it is about the drone in our cars, but it's very annoying. Drone with a V8 sounds great to me comparatively.
Aside from that, I agree with the torque issue, but not throttle response. Straight pipes are for hard core want to shave weight enthusiasts only. Other than weight, they have no benefit.

while I agree that turbos with straight pipes are loud, turbos do muffle the sound aLOT.... If you have ever heard a straight pipe NA car, you will know how much turbos muffle the sound. the difference is huge.

I purchased an old Fabspeed Gen one crossover syste, Cut out the crappy mufflers, installed race mufflers and crossovers. My cost was $600 for the Gen1, and $2700 for all the other work. So $3300 installed. It was a lot. But I love it and I am pretty sure that all who hear it agree. It does sound great.
Hmmm, I don't know about that one, I've heard some NA 911's at Club Races that will pierce your eardrums from 50 yds away. Turbo may be louder at idle, but as soon as you hit WOT, the brain scrambling begins. Might as well have your head at the tip of the exhuast pipe with the NA cars.
