TT Headlights HID or Lithtronic?

Guys looking to replace one of my headlights and confused as to whether it is an HID or Lithtronic? How doesn't one tell?

Many thanks,

So the terms 'litronic' 'HID' & 'Xenon' are all referring to the same headlight unit?

I'm no lighting expert but will take a crack......HID and Xenon is the technology.......High Intensity Discharge (vapor vs filiment discharge) and in our case, the D2s's are Xenon (the gas) filled......1st avail on 993.

Litronic is Porsche packaging and further design and inc auto leveling, etc......and bi-xenon meaning bi-focal either w/ lens or shutter. I'm sure someone can add or correct me on all this.

BTW.....OE HID D2s from Porsche were 4300K but many (per other threads) have replaced these (along w/city lights, fogs, etc, etc) with higher color temp bulbs.

Gregg thank you for that explanation........the question is how does one determine which they have?

Not to hijack the thread, but similar issue. All the books that I checked show an H7 as direct replacement for a 2001 996 Turbo, yet these do not appear to be what I need.

WHAT IS THE EXACT OEM LIGHT THAT IS NEEDED FOR THIS APPLICATION?

Thanks.

Golly this is a long time ago but.....H7s? (run of the mil halogens).....I do not recall those on Turbo at all......pretty sure she had Bi-Xenon Litronics from the get-go.
The following year the rest of the 911 series picked up that light config with Litronics as an option.

That's what I thought as well, but went up to three different "local yocal" auto parts stores and the books show an H7 as the replacement. I didn't buy them because I was certain that they are xenon's, just wasn't sure the variation/type.

What replacements do you guys use? and from where? and when you replace one, do you need to replace the other?

Well, I figured it out on my own. Lithtronic (Fancy Porsche word for XENON).

Called my local STEALership and they wanted $238 for the bulb (ONE, singular, UNO). Called Pelican Parts and it is $70.
