Engine conversion from 996tt to 997tt

How difficult would it be to fit a 997tt engine in a 996tt?

Topless TTS is infamous around these parts
Probably cheaper to just trade in the 996tt for the 997tt altogether.

The thing is my engine is up for a rebuild and I have found a 997tt motor whit low miles on it. I now the motor will fit but the question is the electrical, if I'm not mistaken the 997 uses two MAF sensors and there are probably more. I could probably use the intake system from my 996 motor and the wire harness as well.
But I would like to use the complete motor, so if any one's got an idea or know where I can find a wire diagram let me know.

Well, I guess it depends how you define "motor." Same block, but many changes...ie:

Crankshaft is different, cylinder housing is shorter by 0.3mm, valve lift increased by 0.6mm with larger adjustment range, tappets are shaped differently and stronger, timing chain is longer, there is an additional oil extraction pump in the front of the crankcase in the dry sump system, there are two oil-water heat exchangers instead of one on the 996...and so on.

Drop me a PM, I have the 2007 wiring diagram manual if you need it for the 997TT. The pdf is too big to post.

If I can stuff a 964 motor into my '72, you can put a 997TT motor into a 996TT just be sure to get as much of the wiring harness and associated electrical as you can out of the 997TT But even if you can't, where there's a will there's a way, they use the same block so it's a matter of details.

Judging by the power outputs guys are running in the 997TT's the 997 motor is a little more stout on the inside, just a guess though. If it's used and cheaper than you can find a similar 996 TT motor, then by all means. But make sure to have it properly tested leak down etc.

Low miles, does not make it a sure bet. Have the over-revs checked as well.
