Safe to drive without MAF?
Is it safe to drive my 996tt with my MAF unplugged for a hundred miles?

Car drives perfect without MAF so I think it will be no problem..

Yes, it runs very well with no MAf and plenty of boost. There is a default program in the ECU for no MAF and it works well.

Is there any harm caused to the engine when running without the MAF?

I don't think so, there is a factory map for this and the car runs almost prefectly, if you disconnect the MAF at the electrical connection, leaving the MAF in place. The only difference I noticed was that the RPM's hang on shifts and do not fall as fast as with the MAF connected. Other than that, my car runs perfectly with no MAF. I had occasion to run my car like this at one point during tuning for a change in MAF brand.
