ECU Flashing a 996 Turbo

I recently purchased my all time dream car a Black on Black 911 Turbo with low miles. After joining the local PCA and talking to other Porsche owners I am considering a few mods. 1. I and am considering flashing my ECU and 2. upgrading the cold air intake. I'm told by some people that I can gain near 100 hp for the chip and that seems to good to be true. Does anyone have experience with this? Will I be asking for problems later with the turbo etc..?or should I leave well enough alone. This is my first post and have enjoyed reading and learning from others on this site recently.

The ECU Flash is one of the highest Bang-for-Buck mods you can do to your car... Use the 'Search' feature up top on this page and you'll pull up countless threads on different tuning companies. Happy reading.

Yes the flash is an excellent mod, but I would forget the CAI for now...much better off going with better flowing exhaust and DVs than CAI.

ECU flash is just the tip of the iceberg around this forum. You have much reading ahead of you and many, many more temptations for you to throw your money at. +100 hp is very mild compared to some of the monsters that guys are building here.

Good luck and keep a firm grip on your wallet.

Yup, slippery slope.
With me it was flash.... wow it works,
Then 16G Hybrids..... wow again.
Then suspension.... PSS10's and F&R HR Sways,..... wow,
Now the extra power has me needing a clutch. CM3 and GT2 Hydro....

Your friendly "pushers" are Dan M @ Vivid and Tony C. @ EPL. Both have made me very happy and the mods although nowhere near the max, make the car MUCH more enjoyable and still reliable.

I don't think these engines are intake restricted at the power levels you are talking about (obviously someone correct me if I'm wrong).

Best bang for the buck is certainly a re-flash, but I think the next good mod after that will be an exhaust and diverter valves. My own 996TT has a re-flash only, so my next intended mod is likely exhaust. A simple re-flash (with nothing else) will probably leave you very satisfied for the short term and, if you want to keep your spending under control, might be a great way to go.

1. Reflash
2. Diverter Valves
3. Exhaust

Good luck to you, and enjoy your new car!

and remember this is a starting point, once you get use to these mods you will keep adding and adding, we all do it never ends, need for speed, so plan for long term buying future mods as well and you will smile every time you let out the clutch

My advice, Unsubscribe to this forum immediately!

Not really, Enjoy your new baby, and I hope your pockets are deep. There are some sick people on this forum.

My suggestion for mods is a little different.

1. Get a nice exhaust that you like, and gives you a nice little increase.
2. DV's
3. Tune and probably a turbo change of some sort. This will save you from doing double the tunes.

Good advice here. Just so you know, one reason I went with an epl flash was because of their generous "trade-in" program for flashes. That is, when I upgrade my turbos (thus requiring a new flash), I get a substantial credit toward the purchase of the new flash...very sweet policy imo.

Oh are you in trouble. Seek help before you get sucked into this forum thing. These people are the biggest corrupters & the surest way to lighten your wallet. With that said, welcome to the forum.
Go with a name brand ECU tuner and look to coordinate an exhaust along with it. Make sure that the exhaust is something you can "grow into, ie bigger turbos, intercoolers, etc down the line.
All of us are biased tunerwise depending on our experience with that person/company. Good luck
