Should I Get a 996T Now and Mod It OR Should I Keep My 4s to Get a 997T In a Year?!?

Hello Everyone,

I am very confused, ....

I wonder how much more "raw" is the 996 Turbo compared to the 997 Turbo?

I also wonder which car will be "cooler" in 10 years, because whatever car I get next, I want to keep it for a long time, .

Thanks,
Alex

I like what you said. If I got a 996 Turbo, I would want it to be a x50 car (k24 turbos), or swap the turbos if the car has the standard k16s.

And what I was really thinking is that I love the fact that the 997 Turbo already had the perfect turbos (k24) from the factory, all I would do would be exhaust and tune.

actually the K24 is far from perfect and not much of a step up. However the 997tt has VTG's which are an all new design and much better than either stock 996tt setup. If you can get the newer 997 turbo, that is definitely the way to go. I prefer 996 looks but that is personal preference.

Hmm, I am very surprised to hear that the factory k24's are far from perfect, after doing some more research, it seems like those turbos make a lot of lag compared to some of the aftermarket turbo setups on this board.

Thanks for the info.

I tested both before got my 996tt 3month ago. Bit better response/little less turbo lack/bit more on top end for 997tt. Interior is also bit better. So more Blast for the Bucks at $40k 996tt and $80K 997tt. 996tt was the winner for me. With money I saved, and I used just $8K, my 996tt is getting mild mod to 640 crank hp. It would keep me having fun for a long time while I wait for 997tt to get depreciate at faster rate and I switch later, if I want to.
If extra $40K is small amount for your financial, 997tt might be the choice.
