$6K For A Complete Clutch Job?
He also told me there is no such thing as Sachs Stage II Clutch Kit and he deals with Sachs rep all the time. I told him to look at vividracing website and he said that someone must put this package together. He told me that he can sell the kit cheaper and he went ahead and add the full vividprice to the estimate (vividracing offered a 10% of on all clutch kit and he igored this fact). He said he can get the same parts in the kit. Someone told me that he doesn't install parts that you bought yourself. If I buy Sachs Stage II Clutch Kit, it will be cheaper than the OEM.
If I need to tow the car to another shop, can it be done without the gearbox?
Thanks,
TC

sachs does not sell their kit as a stage II they just offer the parts i think there name for the pressure plate is 999 unit and then vivid sells it asa stage 2 kit because with the increase clamping pressure of the pressure plate it will hold much more then the stock unit with same center disk (organic) getting a Kevlar or Fibertuff/tough disk would greatly increase the frictional surfaces and hold much more power but as you have a stock car an organic disk will do fine.
the rest of the part prices are high because the shop has accounts through each company generally and they charge you retail and make a few dollars on each part (not always the case but about 95% of shops that deal with these cars all the time do this) and also they have relationships built with suppliers for part warrantys.
and i would be surprised that you need a new slave cylinder if your accumulator is not bad but if your gonna change one you probably ought to change the other. or do a gt2 slave delete kit like i suggested earlier to remove the stock clutch accumulator failure problem that plagues these cars.

you can tow the car without the gear box yes, but then u have to transport the gear box n associated parts its a bit of a hassel and youll owe the current shop money for the removal.
Do a sanity check here...

I think the Sachs is called their Performance line. That is what I got and it is somewhat pricey... That is what my guy recommended and he is always right... Well, at least he will support it!
Clutches are expensive no matter what, but I would definitely do the accumulator if you have to do the slave... It is only a little more and they tend to go out...

BUT, he won't get to bone you anymore....Everyone here has told you you can get the Sachs stuff for half the price. If he won't install brand new parts, he doesn't need the work or your money. move your stuff...

I will and I am already in the process of finding another shop. I have to bite the bullet and get screwed for this one. It's an expensive lesson to learn, but I will not make the same mistake again.

Something that wasn't mentioned about the GT2 clutch slave retro fit is that it will make your clutch pedal harder to push in. Maybe that means nothing to you. For me, after having had other vehicles with heavy clutches, I prefer the ease of the stock hydraulic clutch setup.
Also, if you are planning to do mods that add power, take that into consideration now while choosing a clutch so you don't have to upgrade again later. Talk this over with your tech.
