If I were you, after hearing the difference between your quote and others in this thread, I'd be looking for another shop because I believe your guy is a gouger. Especially since he knows that you know nothing about this stuff yet. Do your homework and see who else is in your area.

I spoke to a tech at Sachs a while ago and got the numbers for the max torque for the OEM replacement kit which is about 520 and the upgraded kit which has a 4 puck disc at about 710. I am going from memory, have the exact figures somewhere.

I'd find a new guy to do your work... you can never look him in the eye again and trust what is coming out of his mouth.

Fired.

Totally agree. Once you lose the trust of your mechanic, you can never regain it and you'll always be wondering if he's being forthright. There's plenty of shops up there in the New England area, hopefully someone on here will chime in with a good shop that's relatively local to you.

GoingFast is infamous around these parts
He will charge me for 11.5 hrs for labor which is $1400 and the OEM parts cost around $3700. I am asking him to price out the Sachs Stage II Clutch Kit. If I go with OEM, the price is around $4,800 which is very reasonable. I am waiting for 2 shops to call me back with an estimate. I think I will go with him now since he already take the transmission apart. Below are the OEM parts price.

Flywheel 993- $1367.15
Disc Clutch - $436.28
Pressure Plates - $672.28
Release Bearing - $216.39
Guide Tube - $102.49
Fork Release - $256.61
Slave Cylinder - $456.09
Other Misc. parts - less than $100

I just want sincerely thank you everyone for helping this noob the last two days. I have never owned a Pcar before and I know maintenance is expensive. I don't mind paying for the maintenance as long as I am not being screw over! You guys are awesome! Happy Thanksgiving to everyone and good health to all of you and your love ones.

I didn't read the whole thread, but you can get an aftermarket Sachs kit with a LWFW for half of the cost of the OEM stuff and it will last longer if you upgrade...install time seems reasonable and they can run into issues too, so be prepared.

You need to go back and read the responses in this thread... That's still not "very reasonable".

Someone said that $4200- $4600 is a fair range. I called the stealership and they wanted $5,600. I have called a few shops in MA, but none of them is getting back to me with an estimate. I felt like I am trapped now since my mechanic already removed the transmission. He told me that the release bearing broke and it messed up all the parts. Hence, he needs to replace all of the parts and not just the clutch. If I take some pictures of the carnage, can you guys help me diagnosis? I am going to the shop tomorrow and hopefully my mechanic friend can come with me.

Thanks,

TC
