GoingFast is infamous around these parts
Went to the shop this morning to inspect the damage. Clutch, pressure plate, flywheel, and slave resevior are damaged due to malfunction of the release bearing. Warranty won't cover this since it is written their policy for this kind of damage. I was told the clutch job was $2500, but now it turns into more than a simple clutch job. Someone has monkeyed around with the clutch before. I will post pics when I get home.
Happy turkey day,
TC

The Anatomy of a Fail Clutch and Its Associates

Most of you are not NooB like me when it comes to the mechanism of a motor. So, I thought I will do a show and tell to see if I pass a clutch test. Please correct me if I am wrong.

The players - clutch, pressure plate, flywheel, and clutch release bearing is missing in this pic. Why a sprung clutch disc was used with an OEM flywheel. Doesn't the OEM flywheel require a unsprung disc? Could this be the reason why the clutch release bearing fail?

The clutch release bearing failed to disengage properly. So every time I pressed the clutch, it pushes the clutch release bearing further in to the point where it is stuck to the clutch disc permanently. Hence, burnt clutch

The flywheel is done since the teeth have melted plastic between them.

Slave cylinder is leaking oil (black stain) need to be replaced and decided to replace the clutch accumulator as well.

The gearbox is badly sheared.

I decided to go with a GT2 clutch, OEM dual mass flywheel, and Sachs racing pressure plate. I don't want LWFW since it rattles and that will drive me crazy and harsh 1st gear launch. I went with these parts so I can maintain OEM clutch feel as much as I can while upgrading the clutch system. Any thoughts or recommendation?

What did your tech say about the sprung clutch? Is it supposed to be in there?

stock disk should be sprung just like almost every other car on the market it gives that much more cushion on engaging the clutch. you can have sprung un sprung or you can even put cushions under the facing material like the ceramic pucks on stage 4 style clutches.

release bearing failure is common on these cars just ask $manager hes been through it a time or two.
