My stock radio has become very moody. At times upon startup it will power on with no volume or channel function. Other times it will work but i cant change volume or channel. Put in a CD, and the radio kicks on. Loose connection or time for a new unit? I imagine its cheaper to replace than to fix. Anyone else have these issues??

 

You didn't mention if you have the basic single din system or the dual din Bose stereo/Nav system. In either case, unless you can find a board member selling a used head unit cheap, you're much better off replacing the entire system ( including amps and speakers). In the long run it will be cheaper with better Nav, better ipod interface and better sound.

 

Check out the kenwood dnx series or the pioneer avic z series, all are great headunits with nav, bluetooth, ipod/iphone control, and much more.

 

thanks for the ideas....i have the basic system - no nav etc....no real need for nav, but i'll probably look to upgrade if i have to replace it. Always looking for any excuse to upgrade!!

 

I have the same issues, not sure what causes it. Its very random.

I even considered getting a new Head unit , but my car is 2003 so it requires extensive modifications , amp , HU etc.

 

same thing here. got a 03 and nothing on screen but have sound on startup, but usually comes back in a min or so. it randomly happens like once a month. dealer said new head unit is the fix for this. so i just ignored it. not a big deal anyway

 

It has happenned to my 03 a few times. Turn on and no volume. Restart and then it works. This appears to be common and likely a defect?
