Failed start = rat tat tat machine gun sound
Failed start = rat tat tat machine gun sound
So I just got my car back from having a new stereo installed... Drove it home, and the next time I tried to start it, it was a no go. Warnings about temperature sensor failing, fuel level sensor failing, etc. But that went away after I pulled the key out and tried again. But I get a rat tat tat machine gun like sound from the rear of the car, and the dash lights flash on and off in sync with it.
So my question is basically: is this a battery issue (possible, but seems unlikely), or some kind of alarm/immobilizer issue?

Justin, I'm 99% sure it's the battery. I have that tommy gun sound everytime I don't drive the car for two weeks. I plug the trickle charger in and 24 hours later, it fires right up.
On another issue, you might want to take a look at the stereo install. Something must be draining the battery

Charge battery as it probably was drained down during the open door and testing of the stero install.
It may just be time for a battery...... or you have something draining it down.
edit: guy in front of me typed faster.... we both have the same thing to say. Good luck.

I was hesitant to think it the battery because I replaced it less than a year ago, but I'm leaning more and more towards that theory... jjbravo makes a good point that possibly something is draining it. Which would be annoying, I'm tired of having my car in and out of shops so often..

How long was the ride home and then how long did it sit before you tried to start it?
Most likely one of two things:
Negative terminal loose on battery
or
Stereo hoooked up incorrectly, with the most likely culprit being the switched 12v wire [red] was hooked up to a constant 12v source [where yellow should be/is].
If this was done, your battery will drain in a day or so until you change the red stereo wire to a switched source...
If you change your battery and it is dead the next day.....the red wire deal is your answer......
If battery cables are tight, get a volt meter and check for current drain......
