Incredible Price on a 996TT!
So if any of you frequent autotrader, you have seen a black 2001 996TT selling for $21,550 in San Diego.
At first I wanted to tell him to go F@#K himself but I was curious if he would humor me and provide me with more info on the car and why it was fo inexpensive. Plus I wanted to see if he would give me the VIN along with a picture of the VIN plate.
His response was:
"Hi there Andrew!
Sorry for the late response; something came up and I had to leave urgently on a business trip. Anyway I wanted to let you know that the 911 turbo is still available.
I am selling it for $21,550. The 2001 Porsche 911 Turbo looks like new; it has never been scratched or wrecked. The car is in great condition inside, outside and mechanically. It will come with a clear title, bill of sale signed by me as well and all the papers (including the original manuals and keys) that you will need to register it under your name. I want to sell it because I don't have much use for and I could use some quick cash right now, rather than waiting for a better offer (selling takes a lot of time too...). So I'm willing to let it go right now for $21,550.00 and since I only have one, First come, First served.
Although I am not home, I am still able to sell you this car safely if we go through ebay. I have a purchase protection program with them (Condition Guarantee by Seller Program), so ebay will guarantee up to $50,000 for any vehicle I sell. Shipping is already paid, because I recently moved from San Diego CA to Miami FL and before leaving I have made arrangements to ship the car here to me in Miami. Now that I am selling it there is no point in shipping it here anymore and since the trucking company offered to ship the car anywhere within continental US for me at no extra cost, I've left it at their warehouse and it's ready to ship at anytime.
Also, this purchase protection guarantees that the car is exactly as I described; basically, once delivered, you'll have 3 days to inspect it at your home and if you decide not to keep it you will get refunded in no time and they will charge me with the return costs.
If you agree with these terms, please email me your shipping name and address so I can start this process through eBay and I will also get back to you with more details on how the ebay process works. You should know that it’s not necessary to be a registered user with eBay to benefit from their vehicle purchase protection program so don’t worry if you are not a registered user with ebay. I have more photos with the car hosted on the internet at the following link: http://s928.photobucket.com/albums/ad129/ampudr/
I look forward to hear from you if you are interested in the 911 and do not hesitate to ask any questions you have about the car or if you simply want me to get back to you with more details on the ebay deal. Regards,
Rodrigo"
Ther's no way I'm going to jump on this but if there is anyone daring (or dumb) enough to go for it, please do. Report back and let me know how quickly he swindled you out of your money.
He never did send a VIN, surprise surprise!

I know this seller and he has authorized that I can take a 50% deposit on this fine vehicle for him. Please send me the deposit directly.
Oh and Patrick Chan told me you should take him up on that great business deal he keeps telling you about!

Yeah, it's all haha funny until the jerks start posting YOUR car up for sale I won't be surprised at all if someone recognizes the car or someone here actually owns it - and isn't selling it!
Last month while looking to buy e55. I found good condition one at medium price on autotrader with local search. Owner replied as the deal would be though ebay contract and car actually sat in container at Tx & ready to be shipped. It is safe and full protection. If I do not like, I could return it without pay shipping. I offered cash but I would fly, pick up and inspect it. He disappeared like a magician. Beware guys. It is everywhere even in normal deal.
In fact last week I saw a red 996TT also being sold for a price that was too far below the current market also in San Diego (probably the same guy). The autotrader ad was using pictures of a car that some one here (I don't recall who) had just taken delivery of.

Yeah this scam is popping up all over the place now. This is the 2nd one that I've heard of on Auto trader and i've heard of a few on Ebay. Please report it to Autotrader. As Coastalb55 said, there was a red one through autotrader and the ACTUAL owner is a member here on 6speed. What they probably do is take cars that are for sale, steal the pix and the VIN #'s so they've got quite a bit of info so it'll appear as if it's legit. As the old saying goes "if it's too good to be true..."

I reported the scam to AutoTrader and the bogus ad was gone the next day.
Incredible.
I have had guys try to buy cars from me before, the story is this. Hello I am a traveling salesman & want to buy a car for my daughter & she lives in California & the car would be shipped there. I already bought her a car in Georgia & it turned out it was wrecked before & the dealer is sending me my money back. Your car is $30,000 & the car I bought was $40,000 so I am instructing the dealer to send you the check for the full $40,000 & if you would be so good as to wire me the $10,000 extra I would appreciate it. I was not taken by it at all but wanted to see how far this would go so I told him that works & gave him my office address to send the check, low and behold a cashiers check shows up from some bank in Texas, I took the check to my bank & they said yep that is a real cashiers check, then I called the bank in Texas that was on the check & they told me to throw it away & they have plenty of these fake ones the Nigerian scammers are sending everywhere. They sure look real, in fact this happened a couple of times.
Who falls for these scams?

I have been lurking here for sometime now. I have never posted before as I have never had anything to contribute. I have been shopping for a 996 for a while now, and I saw that car on the autotrader yesterday.
I had a sneaking suspicion that there was something not right about it, but I figured that I would give them a call anyway.... I called the number and it rang funny, kinda sounded like the phone call was forwarding to another #. Someone answered, which really surprised me because normally on these scams everything is over email. I am not sure what kind of accent he had, but it sounded like a very thick middle-eastern accent. I started asking him the usual questions, which he had very nicely rehearsed answers for. It wasn't until I started asking the more detailed questions about sticker price, factory options, and detailed maintenance questions that he started stumbling and then hung up on me.
Don't walk away from this one... RUN!!!
