Advice and opinion

I know wheels are a very personal thing but I am kind of debating whether or not I should get a new set...
The choices include: keeping my 542R, going with HRE 841R, HRE 847R or PES tuning GP-7
All input appreciated.
I would get the HREs in standard silver centers with clearcoat like my current ones.
Anyone seen a TT with either of the 840R series HREs?? Any pics?? I think the 5-spoke is over-played and am leaning towards the 7 spoke look of the 841R or the GP-7.
Also, which wheels would look better with a Techart fron II GT (with the brake holes in fornt of the front wheels...)??

The PES are probably the lightest of the bunch (possibly by a sizeable margin over the heaviest alternatives listed). Given your long list of performance mods I say stick to keeping performance as the focus and get the lightest wheels that appeal to you. The HREs are nice but they are more common place than the PES. I've heard that every lb. in unsprung weight reduction (wheels, tires, brakes, etc.) equates to taking 7-10 lbs. off of the body of the car. In switching from your current set up to lighter wheels you can look at it like another bolt on performance mod. I could honestly feel the difference on my sedan when I went from 22 lb. wheels to 17 lb. models.

I guess the question is are you looking for lighter wheels or just a new look ??

As you stated it is personal and whatever brings a smile to your face when you look at your car are the ones you should buy... You will get so many different opinions here but it still boils down to what YOU like... Wheels when done for looks, are no different than all of us selecting different options when we bought our cars. They were based on personal preference too.

Good Luck..

I'm in the same situation. I'm not sure the Cargraphics I have now are the look I want on the TT, although I loved them on the 996. I've also spoken to Colin @ PES about the GP7s. What do you guys think of these wheels?

I believe the weight savings is somewhat less, but still very significant. Every pound of unsprung weight is equal to 3-4 pounds of sprung weight.

Hi Jack,

That sounds about right and more in-line with what I've been told a few times.

The look is GREAT. It's the price tag that hurts! Can you imagine my face if I spent over $5000 for wheels/tires and one of them gets bent by a pothole? My wife would throw me out and make me stay in the car. Hey, maybe that's not a bad idea...

Peronally I do not like the Gp7 wheels at all. I like the deep dish look on a Turbo "IMHO"....Msindi I would stay with the setup you have now I think the car looks awesome. Thats coming from someone who saw your car in person...I also think that your brakes look off the hook with the wheels you have now...save the $$$ and spend it else where...

It's gotta have a Fat Lip ! Personal preference of course... The Techarts are the only ones that appeal to me (So far) that dont fall into that category

You want looks or performance?

If you are going for looks definitely HRE 840R's! If you want something light for performance get the GP7's! Simple as that! I'm thinking of getting a second set myself like the 840R's.
