The fact that GM send two suits to the house of the guy who started the internet postings telling him to stop speaks volumes about the validity of the story. They don't HAVE to admit the car is real - it is.

The 996 Turbo S Tip has run 0-60 in 3.7 seconds. I dare say the 997 Turbo will have much better power and better traction. It's going to be very fast.
even if they get the power to 500 hp in the turbo it will still be 20% heavier than the vette I dont think you grasp how bad that is. just to compete at the same level everthing on the car will have to be 20% better than the vette's. porsche should do themselves a favor and loose 10% of the weight in all current 911's. you would be shocked what that will do for a car.
I hope that Porsche increases the 0 -100 mph speed of the Turbos. I have yet to drive one that get's that part of the aceleration down right. They are nice above 100 mph, but are surely lagging up to that point. And since this is the majority of peoples pace in spirited driving around town, The acceration of the Turbo above 100 goes unoticed.

It's not all about weight when it comes to acceleration. The gearing makes a huge difference, and big horsepower/torque without traction just means burnt up tires. The 997S has been clocked 0-60 in 4.0 seconds and the new gearing has a lot to do with it.

That's the AMG philosphy - 4800 lb CL ? NO PROBLEMO : 750 lb ft TQ ( CL65) and traction control will take care of that. Porsche owners shouldn't snicker - we are headed that way it seems .When my Turbo is off boost around town, it feels like a truck after coming out of a base Boxster service loaner . BTW, local Lotus dealer just called about some avail Elises I can take home today , one with LSS Sport pack - seems I can jump a lot of people ( 150 ) on the waiting list , LOL ,
just by saying the right things .

Do you grasp traction?

My guess is the 997 Turbo will do the run in the low 8's, maybe better.
I disagree with you. I have yet to find a Turbo that will do that kind of time up to 100 mph. Generally, they will take 10+ seconds to get there. It is after that speed that the Turbo gets the acceleration. The specs show even slower than that.
However, in the real world, I have driven both the TT and the GT2 and even in the best of conditions, a stock TT cannot break 100 in 9 seconds, but the GT2 comes close if you don't break loose on the take off. My SC 996 beats both up to 100.

The Nov 2000 issue of Road & Track---> 996 Turbo...9.2 sec.
The July 2002 issue of Automobile---> 996 Turbo Tip...9.5 sec
The Aug 2003 issue of R&T---> 996 Turbo X50...8.8 sec.
He's pushing his own vehicle, his supercharged C2, hence the slamming of 0-100 on TT's and GT2's. That said, I have no doubt his supercharged C2 is really fast (but I don't think as fast as a TT and especially a GT2 or Porsche would just have added superchargers long ago, a la AMG), just don't think anything has to be 'proven' here.

Where are you located? $10,000 says I'll get to 100 mph faster than your turbo. Best out of 3 races. I'll travel up to 500 miles to you if you like. I am sure we can find some neutral party to hold our (soon to be mine) money.
By the way. I have a video I made 3 days ago with less boost than I am running today. 4.01 seconds to 62 from a dead stop and 9 sec to 102 and 0 -122 mph in 12.03 seconds. All on street tires.
Let me know if you want to take me up on the offer. I could use some extra money for Christmas.
