Post your sound system pics

I just bought a '01 996TT from a friend of mine. It currently has an older alpine double din head unit with nav and an ipod hookup. The alpine unit sucks, very old and does not support bluetooth/camera. The sound system also sounds horrible...no bass AT ALL. I am guessing it has the stock speakers.

I am hoping to just get some subs installed instead of replacing everything, so I was wondering if people could post their sound system pics (specificlaly interested in subwoofers).

I am looking for a solution that does not require getting rid of the back seats but also keeps the woofers out of way. Any ideas are appreciated!

Thanks!

bad107,
Give these guys a call:

http://www.caraudioinnovations.com/porsche.htm

Not affiliated with them in any way, but these people have forgotten more about Porsche audio systems than most other shops will ever know and they are extremely helpful.

Yes, I got my Audison amp, Nakamichi head unit and tech support from Rod Birch at CAI, but purchased Morel speakers elsewhere - I used Morel speakers for the front dash, side doors and subs, CAI supplied Hertz for the rear fill. Here is a link to some of the install pictures:

Car Audio Innovations is also very popular with the early 911 crowd since our cars are really difficult to get speakers into. I haven't used them, but I was very tempted to after hearing a few different peoples cars and seeing the quality installation. I'd have no qualms about using them.

And if you do a search on them in the 996 forum, you will find a bunch of threads.

Just finished this one in the yellow car. Kenwood headunit, replaced all speakers with JL Audio, added 2 JL 10s in the rear deck area behind the seats and 2 JL amps under the boot. Fiberglass, painted Speed yellow to match, with trim panels wrapped in OEM grade black leather with matching yellow stitching to tie in the rest of the interior. Light years better than the Bose system we ripped out.

bad107,

Glad to help. If you go with them, let me know how it works out.
They also do a core swap of your speakers. You remove the dash speakers and ship them to them and they ship them back with whole new speakers mounted to the grills. That would be the first thing I did, before the head unit.

I installed a 3-way cross-over system up front consisting of 5 1/4" woofers in the doors, 4" midrange w/ separate tweeters (about 2") in the front dash, 4" coaxial rears and then 6" subs in the OEM enclosure. The front door speakers were slightly larger than the OEM speakers they replaced, but attached real easily. The dash cavity required some trimming for additional room for the 4" mid range. The rears went right in and the 6" subs required slight trimming. Overall an easy install, but I needed a dremel in order to make everything fit well.
