996 shifter replacement question

I'm installing the 997 standard shifter (997.424.010.00) tonight on my '02 996 TT X50 and have a question about one part on the stock 996 shifter I'm removing.

The 996 stock shifter has a green plastic 'floor plate' (called this according to B&M SSK installation PDF attached, see step 21, Floor Plate F).

Should I remove this plate from the 996 shifter housing and put it on the 997 housing or just install without this piece?

Thanks!

I removed mine, it interfered with the 997 shifter it seemed. I tried to move it over, but it did not have the same clearance.

Left mine out as well. Nice upgrade, hardest part for me was to remove the shifter ****... Kept looking for the lock bolt, just needed to pull real hard!

Enjoy the new shifter!

I have tried various shifters. Compared to stock, the 996 GT2 shifter has shorter throws but still able to hit the right gear on track. The 997 cup shifter has very short throws and is great on the street but takes some getting used to on track.

To get the shifter handle off easily just push up fron the bottom of the runner handle and it slides off. Pulling works but it takes alot of effort and some people can even break windshields when it releases.

I'm late to the party, but I'll concur with everyone... I left mine out too. At first I thought I was doing something wrong, but no matter how I tried, I couldn't get the plate to fit without interference. Glad to know I was right after all

WOW - what a difference. I highly recommend this change-out for anyone that still has the stock 996 shifter.

Thanks again for all the feedback.
