Question Vinyl or Leather for replacement Interior trim?

I've just removed the phone from my car (I'm not badass enough for a car phone) and now need to replace the knee pad for a standard/regular item

I spoke with the dealer and they said there is a leather or a vinyl option

The leather knee pad was around £260 plus tax
The vinyl one was around £30 plus tax

Whilst they didn't know for certain the dealer said they think the Carreras have vinyl items and the Turbos have leather ones

Is anyone able to verify this?

Also, which do you think I should buy?

Part of me thinks I should save my money and go for the vinyl pad, and then get it re-covered if it doesn't match?

I just removed and reinstalled mine (2003 996TT) the other day while I was reshuffling cables from my recent aftermarket stereo installation and I can assure you that it didn't look like leather. That thing was as plastic as plastic gets.

Just to be clear: are you talking about the lowest triangle-shaped piece of trim that snaps in and out with a simple tug or about a side piece of the dashboard that is on the side of - say - the seat warmer controls? Have a picture?

If it's the latter there should be someone around with a spare who has done the console delete option.

If it's the little piece that you can barely see I'd spend the 30 versus the 260 every day of the week.

It's the pad on the side of the console

it's plastic wrapped in either leather or vinyl

I've been checking but haven't found one yet

I was amazed at the price
Maybe I should strip my car and sell it for parts?

I would check an upholstery shop to have that one re-covered.

i thought the same thing, it seems the car is worth at least 3 times as much when you sell it part by part

I would say just buy two vinyl ones and stick them both on. That way they would be assured to match. Then maybe you could ebay the right one to cover the cost of the replacements. Just a thought.

Sounds like a good idea
Not sure if the vinyl will match the dash panel etc though

Has anyone done the centre console delete and may be willing to part with their left side knee pad?
