Polished or Silver Roll Cage?

Guys once again I need your advice, My GT is putting down some serious HP and I think its time for a Cage.

Would the polished be a little ghetto? or just right??

Or would the same paint color silver look the best

Thanks Tommy

My car to give you an idea.

A cage is a bad idea unless you're wearing a helmet. Otherwise in
and accident, it's something close and rigid to beat yourself on...

I've bounded my bare head off of a padded bar - SFI padded. It rang my bell good. If you have to put a bar in the car do at LEAST pad it with SFI rated padding that's secured well. In which case the actual color of the bar will make less of a difference.

That said - go silver painted. The chroming process can embrittle a bar and some racing associations will not allow it. The chrome can also hide cracks and imperfections supposedly which is another reason it's not desired....

Yea, that's a good question we need to ask the OP... Roll "BAR", or welded in "cage"? If you're talking about something like the DASPORT bar, I don't consider it worth much more than holding my harnesses for my track seats.

A cage is more risky for "casual" contact, so just beware, they're not street/crash friendly.
My DASPORT Bar

Notice no cage in the front interior area?

A real cage - The cage in my Datsun V8Zcar...

So what is it you really want? Cage or roll bar?

nice fairlady.

don't think you can polish steel. either way go painted. I'd go black, more subtle and easier to touch up for full cage. if half cage, body color is nice.

padding suggestion is good idea.

Use a good epoxy black though. Nothing worse than a black cage where paint chips and you see metal <sigh> An etching primer and then a good epoxy if you're painting it yourself. You can use a sponge brush instead of spraying and get a smooth primer coat...

BTW, Mike that bar would look PERFECT in my 911 The little aluminum trim rings around the gauges would also be a nice touch I think.

i have a roll bar in my audi s4....i painted it satin black to make it look like "more" of the interior. I also think in your car a color matched bar would also look very nice. I plan on installing one in my 996TT once i find the right car. If anyone is selling one, PM :-)

I would go black also, specially with those dark tints.

I painted it silver only because of the silver trim in the interior... Might have it powdercoated black...

I don't like the shiny cages like the tequipment. If it's silver to blend with the car or interior that's fine IMO.

OK. Here's what I am after; something that will keep me from getting kicked out of a track this spring for doing some high speed passes in the 1/4 and will be PCA DE and other events permissible, as well as holding up a harness as Mike said.

There is one though i have not even thought about as some of you pointed out about hitting my head on this thing due to a street crash without a helmet.....I def think that would make a small accident turn into something MUCH worse.

Mike, would the DASPORT roll bar make the chassis a little more stiff or would i need a welded full cage to accomplish that.

Anything less than a welded-in triangulated bar with at least 3 or 4 attachment
points will make no difference to chassis stiffness, but you're not going to be
doing anything that really requires more chassis stiffness. Are you running race
slicks and bouncing off berms?

Ricie168 is infamous around these parts
A 4 point roll cage is aways a good idea if you are putting down serious HP and you track the car. In my 996 TT....I have a 4 point roll cage installed by GMG......it is far enough back that it is out of the way from hitting my head.....
