Sachs Stage 3 & LWFW "Rattle noise"

Just drove a Proto car yesterday with a LWFW and Sachs stage 3 . The car shifted smooth and clutch pedal felt as good as stock. Engagement point is mid pedal and very snmooth.
My question is when in neutral and motor idling, there is a slight rattle noise coming from the rear. As soon as you push the clutch in, no more rattle noise. This is with the car still in neutral.
The owner said this is " Normal for this setup". never heard this on any other p-cars I have driven.
What do you guys think.

We think you just drove your first car with a light weight flywheel. Any car that had a factory dual mass flywheel, that is REPLACED by a NON dual mass flywheel will make this noise. It is a normal noise for a car with a LWFW.

The other potential sound you may find is a slight rattle during WOT in a higher gear at lower RPM loads. Both idle noise and WOT rattle go hand and hand with many LWFW combinations.

Mine does it too. I do not like it but it is normal for LWFW.

TT Boost, yes it was my first drive with a LWFW. Everything else on the car was perfect and it just strck me as odd the noise it was making when it engaged and shifted otherwise perfect. Could you explain to me why the difference in flywheels would make this noise.
Is it not having the heavier mass of the stock flywheel causing the motor harmonics at idle to vibrate the throwout bearing slightly?

research LWFW plenty of posts but the dual mass flywheel dampens the sound of the engine and transmission rattling around i have a LWFW at first i hated it now i just enjoy it as its music to my ears

This is the main reason I didn't go with LWFW when I replaced my whole clutch assembly! The noise will drive me crazy!

I was told the lwfw was oem standard equipment in the GT3RS and it also makes that rattle noise right off the showroom floor. Does anyone know if that is correct?

I'm sorry Jeff...I didn't see anything specific about why NOT to change your tranny fluid for noise?

Other than the "rattling rocks in a tin can sound" you can expect to hear some gear whine when you punch it up to about 3,000 RPM.

most of the first LWFW's were just a 964RS Steel flywheel on a 996

The dual mass flywheel dampens the noise of the gearbox. Thats why, when the clutch pedal is Not engaged ("up"), you hear the noise, as the gearbox is "freewheeling". When you push the pedal in, it disengages the clutch and the gearbox is not "loaded" and supposedly comes to a rest. There id absolutely nothing wrong with this noise. If you put a dual mass flywheel back in, it will not make the noise anymore. You will also notice a slightly slower acceleration, as now you have an extra ~20lbs rotating on the end of your crank.
