recommend a drving/racing school!

Guys, i think it's time to finally learn to drive my car better and safer - the pics of the cgt and the enzo wrecks have inspired me to take some courses...

don't want to take too much time away from work as that gets very expensive, but if it's worth it....

your experiences, stories, and what you learned?
how much i should expect to pay as a fair price?
take my car or use theirs?
thanks!

If you have little or no experience I would suggest PDE Porsche Driving Experience in Alabama. Great school and great world class pro instructors. http://www.porschedriving.com $2800

I am a big fan of the Panoz Racing School. I did a 3 day beginer at Rd Atlanta, a 2 day advanced at Sebring, and I just did a lapping day with them this past weekend. Great instruction every time.

I would also make sure to look into a karting school. A lot more seat time and helping your reactions to skids, etc for the same if not less money then a normal driving school. Supposidly, it speeds up your reactions much quicker then the tradtional driving schools. Hope this helps.

I would say that along with Panoz the other most highly regarded schools are:

http://www.derekdaly.com/

http://www.skipbarber.com/

I've also done the Mid Ohio school which was great, but in front wheel drive cars, so maybe not what you are looking for.

I two day program at Daly's school in vegas is probably your best shot, given your location and all.

Most of the professional schools will provide you with the basics. I have found that that the most important consideration is the attitude of the instructors. I found the instructors at the PDE to be excellent drivers, but to a person, were very much interested in helping individuals improve his/her driving skills.

If you are a beginner, I would suggest you do a drivers ed at your local track, sponsored by your local PCA club. Some tracks also have HPDC (High perfromance driving clinic) and FATT (Friday at the Track). The big advantages are much cheaper and you drive your own car.

Good luck and have a wonderful holiday.

Yeah, I think this is one of the best starter schools to learn how to better drive your 911. After taking this class, take their Master's one. One of the nice things about these classes is you'll be learning on rear-engined cars like the one you own.

Yep, great instructors, great cars, and the most "seat" time I've ever had at a driving school. PDE was actually the only two (regular and master's) I've ever been to which left me feeling like my expectations were exceeded (ie: more than my money's worth).

Talking Porsche Driving Experience - WOW!

Just arrived home from attending the 2-day Porsche Driving Experience in Birmingham, AL. Had a fantastic time and learned what these cars are really capable of. You can only drive these cars to 25% of their capabilities on the street. Barber Motorsports Park is a beautiful road course that is as exciting to drive as it is beautiful to look at. Our instructors were Hurley Haywood, David Murry, Brian Cunningham, Jeff Purner, Cass Whitehead, Christian Coggins, and John Lewis. All of them are very successful racers and very good teachers. My group mainly worked with Hurley, David, and Christian on the track. I did much better than I thought I was going to do and have caught the racing bug big time!

I encourage everyone to attend this course as it is well worth the price and is done very professionally. Where else can you sit down to dinner with a legend like Hurley Haywood and listen to him talk about his experience with the Carrera GT and his 30+ years of racing experience?
