Graduated from Darek Daly Race Academy
Flew home from Vegas last night after 2 days of race training @ the Darek Daly Academy! I took the 2 day Road Racing School. I had an awesome time and here is a breakdown of what they teach by day.
Day one involved:
1. Ground School - learn the physics of how the car reacts to acceleration, braking and cornering.
2. Technical Oval - learn the basics of taking a corner, Breaking point, entry point, Apex, Exit point, Trail Braking and the theory of "one". You'll have to take the class to understand that!
3. Skid Car - learn how to control over steer and under steer situations.
4. Heal & Toe Downshifting - learn how to blip the throttle, down shift while applying maximum brake pressure with one foot.
5. Lead and follow - learn the "racing line" by following the instructor around the 10 turn road course.
Day two involved.
1. Track Talk - Drive around with the instructors in a van, while they explain the do, don't and gotchas of each of the 10 turns on the track.
2. Lapping sessions - The fun part! Drive the car, a custom built F2000 racer around the road course learning each corner and "pushing" it faster and faster.
3. Data Acquisition Debriefings - after 10 laps you pit the cars, walk into the class room and discuss what you're doing right and what you're doing wrong. The instructors have you focus on 2 or 3 things after each debrief to help you lower your lap time! And it works!!
4. Graduation - Yes! Earned my certificate and didn't crash the car! Spun it out once but didn't hit the wall!
This experience was "AWSOME"! On day 2 we did a total of 60 laps on the road course. Needless to say, I'm sore as hell, but what do you expect from a race car that has the same weight to power ratio as the VIPER but that can and does pull over 1.5 G's in the turns!

Highly recommend it!

They are supposed to be getting new cars. Do they have them yet? Also, they didn't even have lateral g's in their data analysis. Have they fixed that as well? I plan to go when those issues are addressed.

Now, if you're a seasoned driver and you're going for your X time then sure, I understand you want to determine what new equipment and a more comprehensive analysis of your laps driven will do to lower your lap time. But, if this is your first time, you'll have your hand "full" just trying to get around the course while trying to focus on the instructors suggestions.
Don't wait, do it Tim do it!!
