Realistic CGT price.
Realistic CGT price.
It seems that the strong support level for the price of a new CGT is around $400 K or so. There are quite a few on ebay with bids at that level but none with the reserve met.
Are they moving for $440?
There has been one sitting at my dealer for at least a month.

rumor is rumor. rumor gets around so fast because internet. how many people can actually buy the CGT? i wouldn't pass any rumor for something i can't afford. at 440,000 sticker i can't buy it. for 20, 30k cheaper i still can't buy it. then what's the point passing the rumor?! for people that actually buy it. do they really give **** on 10k?
yes, they do care about 10K. i have one coming in in May/june 05 here in burlington, MA. the dealer here got holding the bag on one here with a guy who cancelled. they asked me if i wanted it and i told them that i'll take it off their hands for 10K off. they said no at first but keep calling me to ask if im still interested. just yesterday they are so far willing to give 5K off. i have the messages to prove it.

Just sell the 360 CS, GT3 and GT2 and presto....a CGT in your garage with probably nothing extra out of your pocket!
I have been looking for a Carrera GT for the last few weeks. There are many for sale from dealers and private individuals, and they are not moving. Porsche screwed up and decided to not offer leasing options on the car, and I think they are trying to stay away from financing options as well. This is putting some fo the dealers in a pickle. The only 2 other leasing companies I know of have said the residual on a standard 5 year lease has dropped over $60k in 6 months for this car which is really kicking up the monthly price (not to mention spurring on fears of future resale value). On top of that you have amny people who ordered them expecting to make a big profit after selling it shortly after taking delivery. Now they are upside down in the car and desperate to sell before the value takes a bigger hit.
Why have Porsches been getting hit so hard on resale? Obviously supply is outpacing demand. Maybe they should take a tip from Ferrari and hold back production. I couldn't believe how quickly my X-50 turbo depreciated, and my friend's GT2 depreciated even faster. Used Turbos and regular 996 prices dropped faster than its competitors as well.
I look at this as an excellent time to find a deal on a GT, but I am worried that about how fast Porsches seem to be depreciating.
I know 2 dealers who offered $15k and $20k off of sticker already on brand new cars that were just delivered. They don't like keeping high price cars on the showroom, especially when Porsche is not helping them out.
This is just what I am hearing out there. Obviously some of this information could be incorrect as it is coming from several sources.

So what if Porsche scales back production and makes less than 999? Would that boost the residual, stabilize the slide and overall help out? Or, does that screw the profit they intended to make at 1500 units and therefore they don't care? Or do they switch over to a turbo version earlier than 700 units, charge an additional arm and a leg to cover production changes on the last 299 units and see the numbers in the range of 825 bhp, 0-60 sub 3.1, and make everybody happy? Or does that further tank the CGT value?
The Carrera GT is pretty much the perfect sports car. I think pretty soon it will be one of the greatest bargains of all time.
If I can ever find a nice one with some mileage for $250K, I'm there.
If not, I guess I will just have to figure out how to get one.
