How to mess up your wheel finish

[shame, stupidity, humility]

I'll out my stupidity so that someone else doesn't do the same damn thing...

Do NOT go buy brake cleaner thinking it will clean the brake dust off the wheels and calipers, it will, check that, W I L L eat the clear coat off. If you're really having a bad day of clarity, you will also attempt use a greenie weenie (3m scratch pad) to try to fix the problem, in short, it will only make the matter worse.

I could say that the vicoden I was on clouded my judgement or I can man up and say I was nothing more than f*ckin stupid to the atonement of $5000 for my sins (new wheels/tires). I will get the jacked up wheels stripped and refinished.

PRCHE951, thank you brudda for the use of the wheels.

[/shame, /stupidity]

I don't use brake cleaner any where near my car! I don't even like getting brake fluid near it! I don't even use wheel cleaner, just a brush that touches nothing but the wheels and tires, warm soapy water, and elbow grease.
That sucks man.

We've all done something like this or worse, let it go. All it will cost you is a few bucks and the boot marks you put on your own behind.

I learned that lesson on a previously owned BMW. You'll feel like an idiot for a while, but once they're re-finished and back on the car you'll get a sense of relief and one less thing on your mind.

Vicoden huh? Interestingly, I was on Percocet when I did mine following a surgery. Could be onto a trend here about not mixing narcotics and playing with our cars.

Personally I would have popped a few more pills and just got some krylon paint and finished the project for the day. GL all will be better soon.

Have no fear. I ruined my rear Dymag on my bike a couple years ago doing the same thing. I left them that way, to remind me to NEVER use anything but warm soapy water to clean wheels.

Ugh, that sucks. Think of it as an excuse to buy some nice new wheels and use your old ones for track duty!!

Yeah I've got a few bonehead skeletons in my closet too. Some actually ones getting cars on and off the trailer.

One time I thought I might could make it up the street with my corvette on the trailer without tie downs because I couldn't find them. All it took was once slowly applying the brake and the car come sliding up the trailer almost into the back of my QX56.

The only thing that save my truck and car was I had bought a ram air scoop that attached to the bottom of the frame of the Vette, it was strong enough to stop the car or it certainly would have been in the back seat of my truck.

Who can beat that?

.

I've got more too.......
