A night with 28 pounds of boost...

So I was messing about last night with the waste gates (damn there's very little resolution and then it becomes way sensitive) and shimmed them pretty tight. Kaboom... using Stephen's boost gauge (I'll take some pics this weekend) Kevin's turbos were trying to hold 28psi. With Stephen's GIAC programming the 1.3bar limit has been removed. Needless to say, I hit the "next" limiter lol and the car barfed/choked as the throttle body shut. Yes I was running pure 100 but, I backed it down. I'm only looking to run 1.4bar in that mode anyways

So we backed it off and went about a small zip-tie and a half's width. The car now holds 22psi and felt very perky last night. AFR's were in the high 11s, so I'm pretty rich which is fine with me

PS If anyone wants a "free" upgrade. Shimming the waste gates is a little 'ghetto' but still you might get to go a few more PSI and hell it's free. Then again, make sure you have a data logger and are measuring your AFRs.

That's a very good idea indeed. I think I'll hook one up... I just need to find something decent, that works.

Show me a pic then? I'm hoping there's an easy way to tap into with those two 02 sensors per pipe

Nod... I think Stephen mentioned he had designed something that means no drilling and we can just go through the bunghole?

Alex,

Something isn't right. I have blown about every induction hose on my car at one time or another. In many cases multiple times. I have never been over 1.6 bar. Many of my hoses have been replaced with hard tubes. Don't know how your system holds together under those pressures with stock hoses and clamps.

Shrug me neither... But suffice it to say that as soon as the turbos were installed and tested on the first run hoses did blow off. So everything was re-inforced with T-clamps etc... I wonder if they are leaking somewhere too, my cfm's aren't all that great at 47

I am also running a setup similar to this and have still not been able to stop hoses from blowing off. I have change DVs and two hoses and still cannot figure out where other leaks are. Hopefully today it will be resolved. Even with the leaks its still running prettty strong.

The stock hoses will not hold. In some cases, the larger, longer ones will need to be replaced with metal tubing. In other cases stronger silicone hose will need to be purchased. The one hose that holds the diverter valves will have to be reinforced. Heavy duty clamps will be required everywhere.

Just adding boost will get you only so far. Next up, enlarge your intake, induction air lines, intercoolers, throttle body and splitter.

996TTR,

I pressurize the system to 32 psi to check for leaks and help guarantee the reliability of the system.

The car pulls very strong but I am thinking I have some kind of leak somewhere, as I said it's only logging 47cfm for airflow instead of around the 60cfm mark.

I only plan on running 22psi with straight 100 and most of the time will be using the IBE switch to go to a 91 octane mode and down to 17psi. I might back it up with a boost controller too just to make sure.

I may just pick up a set of GT2 intercoolers or go custom... not sure yet, since I'm already over budget on these mods lol I've dremmel and sliced open the air box, but that's only a start. I need to find/fabricate something to suck in cold air specifically like on the right side.

PS Where did you get all your replacement hoses/tubing etc..?

Wow Sharky,

It should be interesting to see how long your car lasts under those kind of boost pressures.

I'm at 1.2 bar and it still makes me feel leery to be running so much boost for sustained periods.

It really is very slick indeed. The range on it is perfect and I can see it very clearly from my driving position. I'll get a photo of it in action- just don't expect me to take one at 28PSI. It's kinda scary..
