Price Opinions/Advice on purchase of Modded '01 996TT

Ok. So Im about to drive myself (and a seller) nuts. But I just cannot get myself to pull the trigger. So I wanted your thoughts.

2001 996TT. 16.5k miles. Silver. INCREDIBLY, showroom clean. Looks almost new. All research done -no stories.
-Lets say $45k in mods. Protomotive, Moton Suspension balanced, wheels, interior goodies, K40 radar, stereo, roll bar, 997 brakes, etc. etc. (actually probably way more $$ in mods, but haven't sat down to count it all up. They claim more like $60k in mods)
-585-600 AWHP
-Did I say Clean?

Lets say I can get him down to $62k (if possible). I know the money is in the car, no questions asked. BUt a car is only worth what a buyer will pay, right?

I am having a hard time deciding to pay $62k for a 10 yr. old car, even though it has exactly what I want. But my original budget, before I knew what car I wanted, was about $50k. I now realize I have very expensive wine taste on a beer budget. Also, realize, Im a noob. Never even sat in a Porsche

Any pricing thoughts?

It sounds like it has a nice list of mods, clean, etc..
Ultimately it's up to you on how you want to budget it. You either pay for it up front with this car or you by a stock / less modded car for ~50k and upgrade it. Probably cost you more in the end.

As for being a 10yr old car. Remember that the car cost 100k + then. For the price / performance of the P-Car it's the best bang for the buck now days; AWD, gobs of power and great handling with proper suspension.

Good Luck!

JG GT500 is infamous around these parts
Buy it, unless you enjoy "modding" in itself. Caveat, get a detailed PPI.

Hi there - I have been going through the same process as yourself and thought about the same car you are looking at among many others. I ended up moving to another car for two reasons.

Firstly - I am the type of guy that when i want something 100%, and my gut tells me to get it, then i go for it. But i have found that the longer i go back and forth on it, the more i should put it back on the shelf.

Secondly - and i did this for several cars, i laid out the value for what i thought was fair market. Blue Book on an 01 with those miles is just over 40K which means banks and insurance companies arent going to cover you for the 62K. The formula on here "savit's i think??" has that at around the 43K mark or 46 with X50 options. Now the mods that were important to me (thats not the mod's that i would normally do on a car) could be done for 20K new or with some hunting around, 10-15K with the parts that go up for sale here.

So i ended up buying a clean PPI - for just under fair market - and have since found 24/18g turbo's and aftermarket coolers. Im about to buy the same suspension and save $$ by doing the work progressively myself.

This allows me to have confidence in the car because i know the process and can narrow down problems if they happen (not sure how far away you are from the car you purchasing), and most importantly, allows me to return it to stock, sell the mods for close to what i paid, and not get burnt when i resell, because the reality is, your not going to sell the car for more than you paid for it, once you use it. Unless you got a screaming deal, and if that was the case, you wouldnt be asking these questions.

Food for thought - but in the end its your decision that you need to be happy with.

You should try buying a car in England
You can't buy a stock example in bad condition for that

Hyper2A. Very helpful! Great 1st post by the way. Tough decision. Part of my problem is I just really don't know what $$$ it would take to duplicate. But Im quite confident I cant get close for the $$$

If the car is THAT clean and modified pretty much exactly as you'd want it, it's probably worth the money. It does sound like an exceptional car that you're talking about.

Unless you're planning to buy one to keep forever though, I'd probably look at some lower priced options out there (which will almost certainly have higher mileage and fewer choice mods of course). It's all about trade-offs, but go with your gut in the end. If you're not comfortable, it must be for some good reason.

I'd go with the modded...you seem to hold this car in quite high regard...

Honestly, if you love the car, go for it. I will say this...I had a 01 996TT, sold it with around...30k miles I think? It was very well modded (IMO, a bit more so than the one you listed) as it had the EVOMS GT700 package, full Techart exterior, suspension, Brembo GTR brakes ($16K alone), GT3 interior, etc etc etc...

With that said, I think the car you are looking at is probably "worth" the $62K you speak of. However, market prices would be a tad lower imo. I'd say $58K would be a good deal...or meet halfway, call it $60K even, and call it a day. I highly doubt you will get it for less than low-mid 50s, and at that point, is it really worth giving up the car you love?
