Can the 996tt suspension be turned into a GT2/3 suspension for a reasonable amount? What is the best way to improve for track performance and how much does it cost? Thanks, Rob

bigsky,

Yes, you can convert the 996tt suspension to the GT2/GT3 suspension. Parts are about 3.5K plus labor. This does not include dampers, springs or sway bar.

Perhaps I should rephraise my question; what is the most cost effective way to improve my suspension so that my car will handle as well as my friend's GT3 on the track?

Sharky: what is JRZ?
Thanks, Rob

JRZ = not cost efficient. I think its something like $10,000. maybe more. fully adjustable (from cockpit) race suspension, just like they use in pro racing. nice though.

what, is he running better laptimes than you or something? if thats the case, one thing you could try is driving harder. Chances are you're not taking it to the limit enough. Unless your friend is a pro race driver in his GT3, you could take him in a bonestock 996tt, if driven right.

bigsky,

You asked a loaded question. By that I mean, what kind of course was your friends car on? A course made up of a lot of tight turns and your car won't stand a chance. A course with some long straights and sweeping turns and your friend won't have a chance.

The first thing you are fighting is weight. The turbo can have the GT2/GT3 suspension installed and it provides for a lot more adjustment. These adjustments are what allows the suspension to be tuned for a particular track. In addition you have suspensions like the JRZ etc. which also allow for tuning of particular tracks. Of course monoballs, certain sway bars, frame stiffening, wheels, tires and brakes can take it to the ninth degree. None of this is cheap. You can easily spend over 60K doing it right.

Are the PSS 9's the same in America as in Europe? AJUSA.com told me that they were having some problems with the PSS 9's and were redesigning them for America. Does anyone know anything about this? If I buy the PSS9 system should I also get the GT2/3 stabilizer bars and if so the front and the rear?

CJV, our local track is 2.5mis with a combination of slow speed turns mid speed turns and high speed lane change. There are 2 long stretches of approz .75 mis. My friend is receiving his GT3 today so I have not seen him on the track yet, but like any good friend, I am looking for any advantage I can get. Especially since he has more driving experience than me. I can not spend 60k on a suspension and I would like to keep it streetable but am looking for the most cost effective way to improve the track handling. I am leaning torward the PSS-9 system but would welcome any other ideas.
Thank you, Rob

I did not mean to question the quality of the PSS 9 or insult anyone. Sorry if it offended anyone. I just want information to make the most educated decision before spending the money on mods. Thanks, Rob

When I search the other forum for PSS-9, I find a post that talks about noises after installation, rubbing on the front drive shaft and troubles with the drop links and GT3 stabilizer bars. PN talks of having to modify the parts. Do these problems still exist or has the system been modified to ease installation? Here is the post:

You could try the new designed H&R Coilovers. Havent read any reviews, but it's supposed to eliminate the previous issues of sitting too low. I think it's around 2K?
