Brake pad vibration dampers for track pads?
Do you guys use brake pad vibration dampers (spiders) for track pads? I recently switched to Pagid black (RS14) pads for track use. They are great on track, i can easily outbreak many GT3s with them.
However, There is a price to pay. They make crazy loud hi-pitch noise on street in low speed gental brake situations, which is very very annoying.
pedestrians must think that i am too cheap to replace brake pads for my Porsche.
Do you re-use the oem barke pad vibration damper for track pads? I understand that it is impossible to eliminate all the noise due to the aggressive track material. Do they reduce the brake noise a little bit or they don't really help at all?
Any other ways to reduce the brake noise ?

I don't think the dampers will fit with the new pads as the track pads are a tad thicker when new. However once you have worn them some I guess you could used them again and it may help some but will not eliminate it. I have heard that if you chamfer the leading and trailing edges of the pad (grind in an angle on the leading and trailing edge) it is supposed to help some also. I did not do this but wish I did. I run the stockers on the street because the squeal is intolerable. Good luck.
On the street, I run Porsche OEM Textar pads. I swap out the pads to pagid black in the back and yellows in the front at the track. It takes longer to get the tire off then it does to replace the pad. I do not use the pad wear sensors or the vibration dampers at all.

Did you notice any big differences when you started running without the vibration dampers?
None at all. Pedal feels the same.
I have used several street pads and the Porsche OEM Textar pads seem to be the quietist. The shop I use grinds dowm the edges to 45 degree angle. Pelican sells some cheap Mintax pads that I just was never happy with. Noise, dust, terrible in the wet.
I would never run pagids on the street (but some people do). Personally, I just can't stand the noise. On the track, they are just phenomenal.

Concur with the above posts. I tried running RS-29 Yellows on the front and RS-14 blacks on the rear on the street, and have finally given up due to the noise. I chamfered the leading edges of the pad, as well as trying a couple of different "anti-squeal" products, and also reinstalled the OEM damper plates once the pads were sufficiently worn. Quite frankly, nothing I did made much of a difference in terms of squeal with the Pagids. Several folks that run the Pagids on the street have said that they have figured out how to modulate the brakes to minimize the squeal. About the only way I can minimize the squeal is to brake very firmly from about 20 mph to a stop, which is where the vast majority of the squeal occurs (at least in my car).
As I change my wheels & tires for track events, I finally decided to just go back to running OEM pads for street use (Mintex). I do not run them with the damper pads, as use of the damper pads requires you to pull the calipers. I have found no difference without the damper pads, and I get no squeal with the Mintex pads even without the dampers in place.
Good luck finding a solution.

I run Pagid yellow front, Pagid black rears all year round. I found that the squeal only happens at very low speed and can mostly be eliminated by very light braking when coming to a stop. I don't mind the noise anymore, and other people don't have a clue about racing pads so I don't really care what they think.
If you leave the vibration dampers in your car at the track the extra heat will fuse the dampers to the back of the brake pad and make removal difficult.

That is the exact reason why I stopped using them.

Thank you all for the great tips.
I think i will switch to street pads without the vibration dampers after each track event.
PS: What about Pagid yellow pads (RS-19,RS-29)? Are they better on street with less noise?

My wear sensors are giving me wrong warnings now, after a track day....I think they fried...
I used to run Pagid black front/rear on the track and on the street, but I didn't like their behaviour from cold (they require a lot of pedal force on the street where they never get hot enough) and I hated the way they were wearing out the brake discs...
Changing them for track days is the best option I think.

You use them without brake pad dampers on street as well, right?
