Are you guys kidding? I was thinking about replacing the windshield simply because it has a lot of nicks and is annoying in direct sunlight while driving.

My car only has 30k miles and only 2 drivers events. I can't imagine how the windshield is so pitted. Do these have soft windshields or something silly like that?

Why is it so expensive? Aren't there aftermarket alternatives?

Yep, and they can't raise your premium for the claim.....

I've also gotten quotes like M3xSpeed at 680 for rain sensing. You better look around. Don't assume the dealer is the only one that can put it in, because many times they will call the same person you could have and have it subcontracted and up-charge you. Have a good glass shop order you an OEM glass and install it. That is if you aren't using insurance. It's a windshield install, it's not rocket science where the dealer has to be the one to do it.

Muhahahahaha (at the insurance companies)

I'm dealing with the same issue on my dd car - how is everyone getting their insurance to cover a replacement? My insurance will cover repairs with no deductible, but for a replacement my $1000 deductible is in effect, and the frickin' windshield is $940.

Rain sensing has a module just below the rear view mirror that does the sensing and activates the wipers.

Happens to me quite often, at least once on every car I have had. If it's not bad or line of site I hold out as long as possible, especially if it's a lease. Twice I have replaced a windshield and had another crack within, within 3 months of replacement.

I have bad luck.

It never ceases to amaze me how much seemingly normal parts cost for our cars. It definitely helps me to realize why my insurance premiums are so high, relative to other vehicles I've owned though. Our factory headlights are about $1900 each if I read that correctly elsewhere too.

That's not much more than other cars... I had to replace one headlight housing on my G35 and it was $1,500.

My reference point was the 1993.5 - 1998 Toyota Supra, and headlights are between $200 and $350 for that car, depending on the style.
