How to calculate whp from TS
How to calculate whp from TS
Guys,
I read somewhere that someone said that it is possible (very accurate) to calculate whp, awhp, or crank for that matter from TS @ 1/4 mile.
What's the formula?
Ken

You need an accurate weight or it doesnt work...
I clearly need to do another run, because I don't have a proper one.
I did a 12.4 sec @ 129.6, but my 0-60mph was 5 seconds (2nd gear start on gravel with tiptronic). I know I can take 1.8 seconds of that 0-60. So I don't know what my real TS will be - maybe mid 135?
Just interested to know.

did you use a pbox for this info? If so, your "trap" speed is not 129.xx. It's lower. If your ET read 12.4 on the pbox LCD screen, then that is accurate.

found this online. http://www.ajdesigner.com/phphorsepo...horsepower.php
by it's calculations, I make 718HP. I guess that's crank hp.

All I done was a second gear start, with a poor 0-60mph time, but I did travel 402 metres and the speed was as stated 129.xx. THe time was poor because of the start.
Here is the chart.
And it was on a 17% incline over the 402 metres.
Am I misunderstanding something here - a 1/4 mile time is to travel from stationery to 402 metres and the TS is the speed at 402 metres?
Ken
Google HP calculators from trap speed... you will get page after page. The point I am making is that unless you know your weight exactly, your power numbers will be off as well. I think the best calculators are on Smokemup.com but some of them are subscription based....
if you want to get a close ET from your Pbox data, you need to subtract your 1 foot roll out time. Mine is usually .23s. That would take your time to 12.1x..
Trap speed is based on an average MPH taken from before the 1320' mark and a point after the 1320' mark. I believe there was a recent thread on trap speed. Trap speed is NOT what MPH your were traveling at the finish line.
The pboxes do not calculate trap speed unfortunately.

Using 3,600 lbs it's 519 rwhp.
Also, looking at your chart your incline is around 3% or so. Not 17%.

Do you have a chart of your 6.33 time?
Kev,
Going back to check, its about a mile an hour off consistently. My 137.75 showed 138.51 on the pbox.
That's for that. I expect once I crank her up a bit I should hit in the 10s and have a good TS. It is a shame that the Vbox does not do this calculation. I'll have to take her to Santa Pod, which is our local track to see once I have run here in.
Do you have a chart of your 6.33 time?

Great, let us know how you do. This tips are excellent 1/4 cars.
here is my 6.33 60-130 on my infamous K16/16g's
