Help with next vehicle purchase
Well if he steps his game up and spends the extra $$$ he may be able to get a 4dr Civic or MAYBE even an Accord... But remember all that weight = slower car.

Don't get me wrong there are some fast Honda's around Houston, none that I'm scared of, but still... I swear though I was listening to music, minding my own business and I literly started to swat because I thought a big *** bee was flying in the car...
I had a CLS55 and now have a SL63 and I admit the supercharged 55 felt faster. But the 63 is no dog. So I still vote for the C63 (or E63) as the good family car. There are a lot of sportier, faster, built as well cars but I think Merc has it down for family driving. Otherwise just stick with the 996 and shove those kids into that back seat - Not!
My family car is a S550. Not even 400 HP but its for family driving. Taking the kids to school. And it will still leave behind most caddilacs (not the CTS-V and Lexus's) on the way to get milk at the store. I thought about getting a S63 but thought it would just be silly to have that much power in such a heavy cruiser.

I was in my SL63 and got in a race with a hopped up Subaru and didn't even know it. It was one of those with the hood scoop. I took off at my regular pace and I look over and this guy is going through gears and looking over at me trying to keep up and so I gave it a little more gas and instantly put about 3 car inks between us. it was really funny. The guy was a sport about it. He was laughing at himself for even trying.
I had a buddy of mine's M5 for a couple of weeks. Really like the car, but it has the worst gas mileage of any car or truck that I have ever experienced. I don't usually pay attention to that but this thing needed gas every time I drove it. Even at it's optimal setting the SMG is still a little clunky and does not shift as fast as I thought it would. Took it to the drag strip (I won't even bother telling you what I ran) and it was a real dog. Even with Launch control it did not come out of the hole as nice as an E55 will.
Having an SUV is nice. The Cayenne TT is definately the best choice there. (A white one would be perfect
) Please do yourself a favor and don't waste your time even looking at Rovers. I have had 3 (2 Disco's and my current Range Rover HSE). I loved my Discovery's and didn't have any major issues with them. My HSE has been a money pit ever since it came off warranty. I will never buy another one.
The E9x M3 is also a very nice car. I agree with you on the lack of tq though. Just like the E46, it's not meant to be a drag racer. It's actually not much faster than the E46 by the way.
The Supercharged and Turbo Benz's won't dissapoint you in the tq dept. They are big cars that go very fast in a straight line. The 63 is no dog, but with a pulley and a tune, the 55's will walk them easily. I really like the lines of the S class even if it's a huge car.
If it's between the E55 and the Cayenne TT, I would flip a coin as both have different attributes that make them leaders in the class they are in.

When I drive the M5 it gets about 13 mpg. When the wife drives it gets about 19-23
Oh and if you have the settings right it will shift so hard that it will chirp tires in the first 3 gears

Really the two cars you should be looking at is:

This bad boy right here has been getting it done since the 80's son....
Or you can pick its close brother... In truck form in case you have to do any hauling...

Don't let these cars fool you, they maybe old... But the technology in them is WAY beyond our time...
These guys can tell you from experience about these vehicles bad assness

Bland??
lol...HC, when you put the older M5 with the new one the old one doesn't even look like an M. The new M is definitely overdone if anything. Even Jeremy laughed at it's looking like a killer shark, "look at me, I am mean, I even have a fin, I'm going to eat you" or something along those lines. I have been in tons of M cars and in tons of AMG's. I have rolled with them as well. I have even been in the E39 M5 that holds the record from coast to coast. The refinement in the AMG and M cars is so far beyond anything GM could put out, they are not even in the same league. I suggest that all be driven and it will be clear what is truly better, and it will not be the V. Not ever. YEs it is hairier in a straight line, but both the M5 and the E63 are better make no mistake. Typical GM quality control on cadillacs is about as good as it is on all it's other lines. Now if you can get a used V for half of what an M5 used goes for then we are talking.

The CTS-V is a sexy looking car to anyone without euro blinders on. Of course it does have that hint of GM cheapness to it which IMO is the only thing that seperates it from the AMG and M5. Talk about angular, look at the AMG it doesn't even follow any particular pattern. The new E-class is a disaster in the looks department. And you have no idea if the new M5 is actually an M5 without locating the badges, side grill or exhaust. Looks like a 525. And the regular CTS certainly looks better than the 525 IMO.
Either way, enough of the hijack. You can put the blinders back on now.
You must not know BMW's. Bangle's designs are the single most hated in BMW history by BMW enthusiasts. If I have to tell you who Bangle is, then you'll need to do a little research on that. To say the E39 doesn't even look like an M next to the new one......... Are you smoking??

). I thought you would be the last person to talk about what purists want, since they usually don't like change. The E39M5 is a great car, I love them. But finding one in good shape is near impossible. As for the looks. well it is a matter of taste...
here you go:

I was trying not to hijack the thread.... Which I'm still trying not to do.
But for real, you are seriously going to pic those three pictures?
A clean factory type picture of the AMG
A clean picture of a modded, lowered M5
and then a cell phone quality picture of the V on track........
That shows lack of confidence in your argument. Good day.

HC, you are so easy to get going, I love it. C'mon chill, this is not a GTR thread. The V is a great drag car. It goes well around turns, but it will look like an urban cammo car in the ghetto in 5 years
