Some flexible tape and an exacto knife make quick work. Only took me about 10 minutes per light and that included removal and installation. Very happy with the way it looks and definitely feel it is an improvement. Measure your entire headlight to purchase the appropriate amount of vinyl. The 12x12 is a bit short but I made due.

I finally found a place to paint my headlight housings that look experienced enough to do quality work (for a reasobable price).

I shipped the headlights to them last week and should get them back late this week. When I recieve them and install them, I will start another thread with the results.

I'm doing the same paint scheme as detailed below. Of course the housing will be painted the stock L741 black to match my car. I definitely wanted the turn signal lens tinted, because the the light looks too big on the red car above.

Later, Steve

BTW thanks to evoviiiyou for the perfect example and inspiration.

I also think the seal gray car above has the right idea. If there is any headlight mod that I have seen and like, that is the only one. I wonder how it would work with other colors.

To me vinyl is the way to go, easy to put back top stock.

Is that bottom one vinyl or an overlay? I think I've seen something like that from TechArt? It looks good on the black car, I'm not sure how it would look on my silver or if a vinyl would match well :-(

Just a vinyl overlay dude on both, I went for fogs covered on mine as I have the option to cut them out if I want.

The bottom one with fogs came out VERY nice. It looked like these were used ->

Ah cheaper! http://www.ebay.com/itm/2001-2004-Po...58268410&rt=nc

Vinyl is cheaper still but not going to come close to matching my paint I fear and a contrasting black wouldn't look good either. Black is probably best to use the vinyl on and looks great judging from the pictures you posted.

I really like the 996tt lights myself, but when it was down waiting for a new trans build, I started messing around with my lights I think I just wanted a project. I wanted to pull apart and paint the chrome but wanted to try something less permanent. I masked off the lights and used Plasti Dip, did five coats then sprayed real automotive paint in 3 coats of seal grey followed by clear coat then pealed taped before things dried all the way to get clean edge. Before I did that, I tested it on washer cover and it went on smooth, matched the paint perfectly and then peeled off right after it dried. I figured I would just pull it off but now that the car is back on the road, I kind of like it and I can peel it off anytime.

In 10 years the 996 will be worth millions when the collector market realizes, hey, they only made THAT body style for a few years, never before, never again!
