Black looks good with the wrap but colors are hard to match, that's why I thought that spraying real paint on top of the plasti dip was a good idea matches perfect and you can still peel it.

^ thats a good idea and it came out looking good
Not sure why people obsess about these headlights so much.
In my opinion, the ugliest part of the headlights is the washer caps.
Not sure why people just don't remove the washers and place a nice smooth headlight cover sans the stupid hole for the headlight washer caps.
It would be way cheaper than other solutions and it would look great.

If you consider how hot say a black wrapped car would get in a hot climate then I would say no !!!

So to you guys with vinyl overlays, how are you cutting precise ovals? Are you laying the vinyl over, then just guessing what to cut or are you marking the vinyl with a marker after applying it to the headlight? How are you cleaning the headlight prior to applying the vinyl? How does one remove the washer on the actual headlight for that flat look?

I finally found a place to paint my headlight housings that look experienced enough to do quality work (for a reasobable price).
I shipped the headlights to them last week and should get them back late this week. When I recieve them and install them, I will start another thread with the results.
I'm doing the same paint scheme as detailed below. Of course the housing will be painted the stock L741 black to match my car. I definitely wanted the turn signal lens tinted, because the the light looks too big on the red car above.

BTW thanks to evoviiiyou for the perfect example and inspiration.

No issues. No leaks, no fogging and the paint looks great.
I had a friend come by the other day, who has seen my car several times. We were standing in the garage talking and he randomly look down at my headlight and looks back up at me and says "Those headlights, just look like they should have from the factory".
The only minor issue I have had is the paint on the headlight washer caps chips pretty easily. My plan is the have them wrapped in vinyl, which should be more durable.
Here's a picture of how they looked about 8 months ago.

For those using vinyl, could you post up the manufacturer and the product code of what you used and your paint color? It might help others to avoid the searching process later on should they choose to go that route.
the lights are fugly.
way. too. much. plastic.
IMO, pulling the lights apart and painting UNDER the plastic is nice, but suboptimal, bc we still see all that cheapass plastic, waiting to yellow with the years...
Just paint it and be done. the tech art covers look a$$ bc you can see they are raised. Vinyl looks *** cuz (its vinyl) of color matching.
Hi Guys,
I posted this over on another Porsche forum but thought some of you would be interested over here on 6speed. I spent the last 2 years working on a better headlight cover design and I can finally say I'm satisfied with the quality and wanted to show you guys the final piece. It is made out of polyurethane (same materials as bumpers), flexible, and can be painted normally. I 3d scanned the original lights to make sure it fits snugly on top of the existing lens. If you look at the close-up you'll notice we did a lot of work on the beveled edges to make the "headlight ring" look like a distinct piece from the part that covers up the foglamp that is painted body color. Also, we made sure to follow the natural hood seams and lines of the bumper. From the side it gives off a very 991 vibe and front the front it looks 997ish.
A few details: the foglights are covered, the covers are adhered with 3m double sided tape and easy to remove if needed, the version I made is for headlights without the washers. For headlights without washers we are working on a solution where you remove the chrome caps and we will make a custom sized plastic-disc/cover that goes over the circular hole just so it is sealed up and no moisture can get in. The headlight cover would go on top of that.
Let me know what you guys think!
