All the power that is supply to those switches comes from the alarm control unit. Do you have a durametric? Production year of your car? Did you hold the switches long enough until the hood pop-out?

I think your alarm system is at fault because the triggering of the electrical hood release goes through the alarm control unit. If you got a tiptronic remove fuse #B8 and if you got a manual fuse# C3. Also look at the condition of that fuse. .. Just remove the fuse for 10 seconds and back on...

Did you ever open the hood using the emergency release cable hidden under the right main headlight assembly?

Last suggestion before I go to bed. After you try what raineycd is suggesting. If you still have the same problem you can open the hood with a cable hidden under the right fender. You have to remove the plastic cover in front of the wheel and found a small metal cable. You pull on that cable to open the hood. After that disconnect the battery for a minute (you will need your radio code) and after try your switches again.... See dogdelta post to locate wire:https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...pen-trunk.html

Can the alarm system block the emergency release??
Any suggestions on what to do then?
