Why does the Upsolute chip cost $500 and Evo/Giac cost $3500?
I POSTED THIS EXACT TOPIC LAST WEEK(on the list)!!

It seems that everyone is happy with their chip regardless of who made it. Which only makes mew really wonder, why the price difference?

Thanks for the link. Does not seem like anyone really answered the question. Some say customer service or other reasons that don't really say anything.

They are really very different. Somewhat like buying stock. You can do all the work yourself and use a discount broker or you can have someone take care of you and do it all for you.
Power wise comparing Stage I, II and III with Upsolute, Upsolute can stay with the EVO Stages providing you choose the right exhaust. On the other hand, maybe someone does not want all the power Upsolute offers. You can't really build in steps with Upsolute. I don't believe you will get the same help and attention from Upsolute as you would from the people selling the Stage product. The money isn't there to do that. I don't believe the EVO group could afford to stay in business selling $500 ecu's. They must be able to make a living. If you are anticipating 580 to 640 flywheel hp then the EVO Stage system is the way to go. Upsolute can't go there.
The best way to save money is to determine what you really want and stick with it. The decision is easy at that point.

I can only answer for the GIAC contingent. There is a lot of time and effort that goes into developing an upgrade that will allow the owner to achieve thier power goals, have engine longevity and perform correclty under multiple scenarios. Garret @ GIAC is one of a handful of people that program in the same manner that Bosch uses when they originaly program the ECU for Porsche. This is reinforced by the fact that Garrett was the first tuner to federalize a 959, (not Bruce Canepa as a certain publication seems to believe) he in fact did this using alot of the systems already in place on the car, that were simply not utilized by the current programming. In classic humble GIAC character Garrett does not go around boasting about this, it is merely just fact. The abilty of Garrett to do this kind of work/prgramming only cements the fact that he is one of the top programmer/tuners in the market. Absolute HP does not tell the whole story, for instance how is the cold start say 27 degrees F on a sunny february morning?? How is the throttle tip in response?? Are there any flat spots in the HP/TQ curve, Does the car run rich or lean @ WOT??? Best advice do your research and pick the system that works best for your needs. I hope this helps
It is a completely different ECU, Development and research. Twin Turbo and TT are on two different footprints. As Colin explained it comes down to time, research and the ability to tune it. Porsche's Pepper is not near the completely in the ECU department that the TT is.
Well said. If anyone has ever met or knows Garrett they would know that he truly is the most humble guy I know.

I did meet Andrew and Garrett, whilst down at the AutoFest and they were very nice and in no way arrogant. Almost typical of coders in the PC world- quiet and unassuming. Not sure what Andrew thought of my ghetto boost guage tho...
Haha you LOVED it. In fact, you BEGGED me to rig one up with some matching yellow stick tape.
PS I need to get that picture taken of the gauge already. It looks effing cool, except now I have people riding shotgun going "Hey do you know you're running 22 pounds of boost".

Now you know why I sent the new gauge.
