and so it starts. Faulty Slave??

So looks like according to my searches i may have a faulty slave on the 996 turbo im driving. As this isnt my car i wanted to make sure that was the issue.

When the car is off i have a hard time depressing the pedal down but once the car starts, no problem and just sinks right down and feels great.

This seems to have been getting worst since we originally thought the clutch just needed to be bled but was ROCK solid the other day for the first time. Started the car and went away and has not been back since.

From your description slave or accumilator is on it's way out.

yeah just wanted confirmation. Read it seems to be a real common problem. Whats the worst that can happen until i fix this?

Also i read the Accumilator and the Slave should be changed at the same time. Is this correct?

Change at same time. Worst is clutch is not operable and you are stuck.

GoingFast is infamous around these parts
Worst situation is clutch won't release and get stuck to flywheel. Instead of replacing slave, clutch, and accumulator, you have to replace everything including the flywheel. A 2K job becomes a 6K job! Ask me how I know!

Looking at about 4 hours labor from what I read elsewhere... Some members have done it themselves, on their backs using jackstands, but from what I understand Pentosin CHF101 is some nasty stuff.

Do you have any fluid on the ground under the transmission? If yes you have a bad slave. If the pedal is hard when the motor has been off for some time, that is a bad accumulator. Recommended to change both at the same time.

I'm with Landjet on that one. Start with the accumulator only... Cheap, not so bad to do as a first step towards a cure.....

By your description, it is the accumulator that went bad on you. You need a 24mm wrench to remove and a 27mm wrench (ground down for clearance) to replace.
My accum went bad first and then the slave followed it in the time before I changed it. I changed it myself and it didn't take too much time, you just have to have small hands or a lot of time moving a wrench 1/8 turn, resetting it, then another 1/8 turn, etc...

I had the same symptoms, and changed my accumulator myself. I'm 6' 4" and had a VERY hard time getting this job down, even with the cut down wrench, which I had to cut in half and then grind down the face. It took a long time due to clearance issues, but I eventually got it done. Now my slave is pressurizing the pentosin reservoir up in the front, so I know the slave is done. I recommend just having both replaced at the same time (fyi, its supposed to be even harder to get to the slave). I'm going to take the money I would have spent on a new slave and accumulator and just do the gt2 conversion.

That is exactly what I did when I encountered this problem.

Others might not agree with hack, but.....

As a temporary fix you could by-pass the switch on the clutch pedal such that the engine will start with having having press the clutch pedal all the way down.

Once the engine is running you have clutch assist again.

Interestingly UK / European cars with manual transmissions don't have this safety interlock with the clutch. Not sure if Porsche are the same though.
