Seat and Wheel comfort questions

What's the word peeps. So I am trying to figure out how to make my fitment in the drivers seat of my 01TT more comfortable. I am 6' 4" and weigh just under 250. I have been as low as 220 lbs while driving it though, and still have the same problem, so keep that in mind. I have sport seats currently and feel that either I'm not sinking far enough into them, or they just are not wrapping around me as much as I think they should. I drive with the seat at max length extended back, and with a 35-40% recline. I feel like my knees are still too close to the steering wheel and am constantly bumping it with them. So I feel like things can e improved for me a bit while driving, comfort wise at least. It is also a six speed. So on to my question.

Other big guys, do you feel the same way? How have you learned to deal with it with your stock setup, or if not, what aftermarket solutions did you look at to solve similar problems? What might I be overlooking if not? Am I just being too picky? Being a big guy in smaller cars has always been something I've had to deal with TBH, so not sure if thats just what I need to keep doing, but I would like to know if there are options out there for me to change this if I want to. My E36M3 ****pit for example is also small for me, but I can get it setup to the point where it feels just a step ahead in room/comfort. People in the know: What steering wheels and seats might help improve this?

Thanks for reading and your insights!

Justin

I'm 6'2, 220 lb. Feel a bit the same about sport seats but they are more supportive in the shoulders than you think. a 340 mm steering wheel helped quite a bit in the knee room department. Tried to sit in some GT3 seats and my hip bones would not slide all the way down.

There are lots of options, but 997 Sport seats are supposed to be better and bolt right in.

i didn't find the 997 sport seats to offer anymore leg room. they were similar in height and thickness.

Corbeau and recaro make larger sized reclineable sport seats, no motor, so height may be reduced, mount flat to the floor.

if that's not enough, thinner back rests allow the seat to go further back. Custom fab the floor bracket that allows the seat to go back further.

+1 smaller steering wheel is a good idea

I'm not as tall but +/- as heavy. I wanted a 911 but had to make sure i fit in one first. Been there and done that with other cars and have been disappointed. I did find that i fit better in the non-sport seats. I also had a X5 in the past with sport seats and had to wait a year before i finally fit correctly in the seat. I have seen on the web that you can remove the metal brace from the side of the seat and that will make you fit better. Have not done it, but you may want to explore.

Thanks for the feedback guys, sorry for the slow response. Sounds like a steering wheel will be a big help for the knee problem. I don't really know how I feel about putting 997 seats into my car, I think they may clash too much with my interior styling, but any seat alternative is probably going to have that issue. Anyone have experience with the Corbeau or Recaro seats in a TT? How did they look/feel? If I can find one that will solve my problem while still not messing up the interior look of my car, I'll have to put it on my wishlist.

As far a steering wheel, any recommendations in that department? I would like to keep the OEM look if possible. Thanks guys!

Wasn't there a post a year or so ago by somebody who took the fill out of the seat back? From memory all the guys who tried it thought it was a great mod.

I agree, very limited sterring wheel movement, the Cayenne will adjust six ways to Sunday. Anybody ever tried changing steering wheel setup with motorized similar to the Cayenne?? Is it even possible?

Sounds like a possible solution, do you have any more info on this? Who did it, what seats they modded, etc?

Did this seat mod a couple days ago. So far I am happy, I feel much more snug back in the seat and am more relaxed as I drive because of it I think. One problem fixed for now, thanks guys: )

Justin

I will take pictures a little later today.

The extended hub changed everything. The wheel came closer which was much better for active driving and I got much more space for the knees.

Here a couple of pictures. Just let me know if you need some more.

Now I only need to find a way to lower the seat a bit more to have more space for helmet.

That looks just like what I should do. Thank you very much for sharing and taking the time to get some pics. Are there any drawbacks to using an extension on the steering wheel like that? Steering is still solid and secure? Sorry if that's a silly question, I didn't know devices like that were available.

Justin
