Engine/Trans Removal DIY

Clutch time. I know it can be done by just pulling the trans, but in the mood to remove the engine/trans unit. Just because. Searched for but could not find an engine removal DIY. Can anyone help? I have a 2 post lift, trans and trolley jacks, air, decent tools, average skills, time etc. Anyone?

Same, very interested. This is the sort of project I hope to see posts and updates about. There are those of us who will probably never attempt something like that, seeing how its done would be a great learning tool regardless. Please take lots of pictures and provide as much documentation as possible. Would love to see how this progresses! Thank you for anything you are willing to share!!

Me too,

But with a slant.
Most of us dont have the 2 post lifts or the specialist engine tranny jacks.
If possible can you see what big problems might be encountered with the car on stands and normal trolley style Jacks used to drop the engine. The old fashioned way of having to lie on your back :LOL
I think this is something most normal DIY's will be interested in. I too have some good selection of tools and a good Garage/ workshop at my domestic house. But I think most of us will not have access to the very expensive and space requiring post lifts and specialist engine tranny Jacks.
I dont know how much you will be able to comment on this as you do the job. Your thoughts would be very welcome though.
Good luck, I am sure to keep reading on your progress.
Frank

Ididit...car high enough, level ( important, the engine bay is very tight and if chassis is tilted and engine level, it'll stuck ) and use wheeled ( of course ) scissor lift. You need to disconnect or take away
-rear bumper
-plastic airflow panels from bottom of the chassis
-gear change cables ( easy )
-coolant and heater hoses (below, beside the transmission and above both sides of engine plus reservoir return & cooler vent )
-drive shafts
-electrical feed to starter
-engine harness GND to chassis ( below, RH side, close to oil tank )
-AC & power steering
-clutch
-DME harness ( 3 multipins )
-fuel feed & return, brake booster and tank vent hoses, all on the LH side above
-lambda sensors
-air cleaner unit
-boost hoses and turbo air feed tubing ( separate from the engine and leave it hanging to the chassis )

Did I forget something?

Engine is hanging with 4 bolts ( when you've removed lower transmission carrier, 2 bolts to the transmission, 4 nuts to chassis ). Place lift under the engine so that differential housing is also laying on the lift. Put blocks of wood ( or similar ) for balance balance, remove two bolts from upper transmission carrier and two bolts from rear engine carrier, lower the lift ( observe that drive shafts will not get stuck to starter ( RH ) or heater hoses ( RH ) ) and pull engine/transmission/exhaust combo away.

OH, I forgot the cardan shaft, but I don't have it...

Good luck! Prepare for questions from curious neighbours.

Excellent reply, thanks.
So long as I know it can be done without the use of a post ramp or special Porsche Jacks I'm a Happy Chappy.

I did this last September in my garage...it's not a bad job. Pulling it is easy, putting it back in is the harder part
