New Intake Plenum Design

New Intake Plenum Design
We have been very busy over the past few weeks developing an exciting new intake plenum for the 996TT. It features twin 70mm tubes to supply fresh air to the turbos and is designed to work in conjuction with the 70mm EVO turbo inlet ducts, which we supply with the kit. For those that already have the EVO ducts in place, this piece is a great addition and the plenum can be purchased separately. OEM mounting points are retained to insure a straight forward and easy installation. The SpeedTech intake plenum eliminates all restrictions inherent with the OEM design and provides a clear, uniform 70mm path for the intake air to travel to the turbos. Below are some pictures of our new plenum in both natural finish and silver powder coat. It can be powder coated any color for a small additional charge.

Nice work John! I am debating putting in my EVO Inlets or going to the Proto Blow thru. I know you have had both on your car. Will this give us about the same "gains" as the proto designed system? Are these readily available and how much does it go for? TIA...

Here is the additional information and answers to your questions....
Thanks, you will not need to hit the lottery for this one...
Not yet, but the flow characteristics are identical to designs with proven gains.
In my experience with both intakes, there was little to no difference in real world performance - in fact I made more horsepower with the OEM configuration and a custom EPL dyno tune than I did with the custom remote Proto tune I had. The car drove better with the OEM MAF, too, so personally, I prefer this type of system. Everything remains as OEM and there is no hacking the car, so if you ever want to go back to OEM there is no trace of the mods that previously existed. My Proto kit required a lot of cutting and grinding of factory pieces to install.
We will be producing a small run over the next couple of weeks, so yes, they are somewhat readily available.
Pm for pricing...
No, that is one of the reasons why we developed it - sending the plenum in for modification and the resulting downtime is usually a little inconvenient. This takes that out of the equation and makes for a complete upgrade/installation in one day.
However, the primary reason we developed this plenum was that we wanted to improve upon the OEM unit and eliminate the squashed tubing and odd transitions on the OEM plenum. Our goal was to achieve smooth, hi-flowing fresh air to both turbos through large, 70mm uniform paths.
Although it can be done at any time, the perfect time to add this intake is when you are doing a clutch job.
Nice work John. I need to hit the lottery.
Looks great John, any dyno numbers on this setup?

Do you need to send the stock plenum in for modification?

No, that is the second reason why we developed it - sending the plenum in for modification and the resulting downtime is always met with a little resistance. This takes that out of the equation and makes for a complete upgrade installation in one day.
The other reason we developed it is that we wanted to eliminate the funky squashed tubing and odd transitions on the OEM plenum and have two large, distinct and uniform paths for the turbos to breath well.

john your car is the only that i know that made more power with stock configuration then the proto setup . your car was plauged with issues that no one else had /has. just sayin..
Additionally, I know first hand of two others that had the exact same issues as I did and changed for the exact same reasons. Their issues disappeared when the hardware was swapped. I also spoke to a few other users that experienced intermittant hunting, but not serious enough to bother with - So I am certain I am not the only one. That said, I know most Proto customers, like yourself are very satisfied and that is great!
