Porsche Boxster S breaks Enzo's slalom record!

Boxster S also broke the Enzo's slalom record, with 73.9 mph.

I find this rather awesome!

Having driven the old Boxster S, I thought it handled great. The new one seems to be better performing, and I think it looks great!

Latest Automobile magazine highlights briefly the Boxster coupe, mentioning that Porsche keeps the engines dumbed down because if they put the 911 engines in there, they'd be faster than the 911 at the track, and they need to protect the 'profitable 911'. That blows. If the Boxster would be better around the track, put a decent damn engine in there and blow the pants off everything else on the track for cripes sake!

I don't know why they don't just make a special edition boxster coupe with the carrera S motor. That thing would fly and be a terror around a track.

marketing. You can't sell a $70K+ 911 if there's a version of the Boxster that kicks its ***.

But what if the Boxster with that motor were the same price? (Like the Ruf 3400).

I drove a couple of the old boxster S's and I was far from impressed. I thought the handling was crap compared to a regular 911 carrera. Anybody agree?

If Porsche made a Boxster S of comparable power as a 911, given equal R&D into the suspension, wheel, and tire setup, I think we'd be surprised how will it'd perform... possible giant slayer. Of course, this is all speculation, but there's a lot to be said for the mid-engined layout and balance of the Boxster chassis. My brief experiences with the S has been very positive.

Everyone should look at the 10 car shoot out in Road and Track in which the boxter(second place) beats the 911 S (third place). This is without a 355 HP engine. Still this takes into consideration the cost, but the boxter is not a cheap car by my standards( as tested 67K, I think).
