New Product Introduction - BBI Amplified Coilpacks
New Product Introduction - BBI Amplified Coilpacks
Everyone here is familiar with BBI Autosport. Some are unaware of the killer products they have engineered to enhance the performance of the Turbo. So as a dealer for their products, we are reintroducing these Amplified Coilpacks to the market!
Product Information
One of the biggest issues with the 996 Turbo and the 997 Turbo when you increase the horsepower to a certain level is your spark. The stock plugs simply cannot take the additional power. The first step to getting rid of any misfire is by upgrading to a colder plug. However at some point, this is not enough and the coilpacks can go bad. When a spark plug is failing, the coiling pack is working harder to try to keep it firing. BBI Autosport now has a solution for you with an upgraded racing coilpack kit for the Porsche 996 and 997 Turbo with the 3.6L engine. These coilpacks have a built in amplifier system. This means you do not have to cut any wires like on other systems. The system works by increasing the secondary spark current significantly. This generates a high frequency multi spark discharge. Just install and get a huge increase in performance via horsepower and torque all across the power band. We recommend these BBI upgraded coilpacks for cars pushing 600 horsepower and up to get optimal engine performance.

I was told by a pretty reputable source, that the coil pack goes bad when the spark escapes from cracks and these don't seem to solve that problem. The housing and the material that connects to the plug are the same as OEM.
The problem with coil packs isn't the amount of spark or secondary spark, it's the spark escaping from compromised areas on the coil pack. The housing is the problem and the loss of spark; not the amount of spark. How do these prevent the loss of spark when hairline cracks appear over time? How do they justify triple the price of OEM 997 coil packs?

Very good question. I dont have the answer. So I will get it and respond.
I associate these coilpacks similar to the ones from Okada of Japan in functionality. Alot of people use them in the EVO, STI, M market. But regardless, let me get the answer for you

Retail is $950, if you are interested in a set and will do a install write up and review on the forums, PM me. Discount will be a little.
Price is spot on and this is NOT R&D cost. Take a look at the Okada Project Plasma Coil pricing here - http://www.vividracing.com/catalog/a...=okada&x=0&y=0

So the answer is "they don't"... (address the failure mode of most coils)
Clearly Porsche has spent considerable R&D, along with trending from QA, to optimize the encapsulant for the new and improved 997 coils.
I wonder how much long term- 30k miles, multi-year data they used in these 'high performance' assemblies so one can be assured of at least getting the same life as units costing 1/3 the price....
The reality is that most "spark boosters" are just scams. Some just a $20 item where people figure "eh, can't hurt".... but not these.
I won't ask for dyno data or other proof...
Any real 'tuners' with opinions based on realm data?

BBI had a 1200HP car (VR Alexanders) that ran what, 220 at the TX Mile? We built our 997TT running 206mph. Just blantant bashing hurts. Give your comments positive or negative about the product all day long though.

I've had these on my car for roughly 5k miles now. After having a factory coil fail even at pump gas power levels, I can say I feel that the car runs cleaner. Not emissions wise but driveability and general running around wise.
