The 996TT Block is amazing...

Let's just say this 964/GT1 work of art is truly something else. At 31K miles the engine is in for diagnosis and for a rebuild and having seen it fully open for the first time I was amazed at how well it's stood up. On the exterior I may have wrecked my cardon shaft (splines are fubared lol) but the actual engine itself is in amazingly good shape. I figured I'd have plenty of carbon build up but nope. The pistons show barely any wear at all. It's hardly eating any oil and it's taken some seriously high power and hard driving. All the meat and potatoes look really good... I'll post some pix some point. Even the rods check out fine, although it's time for some carillos I think. It's February after all Chad

This block can take some serious abuse and power. It's almost like the legendary 2JZ.

Just some interesting info, apparently Porsche has two different weights of pistons for the block but there's no way to tell other than to weigh them since their are no markings. I was wondering if anyone knew/knows which Pistons Porsche used for different years of the TT/GT2.

Also, if anyone here has since a 35 pound torque converter, please let me know, since it's gone missing and was last seen heading in a box to some guy called Todd in Arizona

That is amazing considering the amount of power that thing is producing. It will be interesting to see how many miles non-mod'ed engines can put on them. It sounds like an easy 100k+.

Where are you getting the work done? Your shop?

- Rich

p.s. - good luck getting your torque converter back!

Will you open up the tiptronic as well? Intersted in seeing what it looks like from the inside and if it's holding up as well as the engine is.

sharkster,

I know it is Febuary. We had a few more set backs. It's looking like March/April now. Recently recieved one of the GT3 cam covers. The other is due in about a week along with the lifter's and springs. The first set of lifter's and springs did not work properly.

Are you staying with the older style case (block) or are you upgrading to the newer reinforced ribbed case?

Do you mean the CV joints? What do you think damaged the splines?

The tranny itself _will_ be worked on shortly. We've got plans for her but in the meantime the tq converter ran away to Arizona...

I know where you're coming from. The more I touch, open, mess with the more time it seems to spend under the knife for other little tweaks. I'm too much into driving her so I think I'm close to being done with her....

I was trying to find out more on the "Made in Spain" case in terms of the advantages...

Let's just say it wasn't easy pulling out the driveshaft from the diff:P It's supposed to come out with a "pull"... Torque damaged that.

Oh and my tranny mounts have been bent three times now- wonder why
