FINALLY...the 996tt is here!

So...first p-car, and I love it! Picked it up in TX...drove it back to NC! Have to say, didnt get bored, awesome drive. Been looking at this forum for a year, and with all the GREAT info on here, was able to find exactly what I want!

So the car...an '01 tt, with <30k miles, progressive springs, Ruf SSK, and wheels (anyone know what kind? Havent figured that out yet...do love them though).

One question I do have:
1) After owning now for 2-3 weeks, I have noticed this issue. After WOT in 2nd to near redline, then immediately in 3rd at WOT there is hesitation, or studdering, until i let off then roll back into it. This is not an issue if i roll into the throttle, only if flooring after WOT coming out of 2nd. This also happens somewhat in 1st to 2nd, but not nearly as noticable.

Could this be the plugs? MAF? The plugs havent been changed yet, and the car has 30k mi on it now. Although my local Porsche shop (not dealer) says the plugs dont need changing until 40k. Whats your thoughts?

Thanks guys, and I've attached some pics of the new ride!

Welcome to the club! Nice car. I saw that car on craigslist, but never went to look at it. Bought well I'm sure. Enjoy.

BTW, those rims are crap. They literally will explode if you exceed 120mph for too long, very dangerous. My recommendation is to sell them ASAP. If you could get $500 (with the rubber) you'd be lucky. PM me if you're looking for a sucker to unload them on.

Nice car. The stuttering you are experiencing is the engine's rev limiter. When flooring it in 1st and 2nd gear the rpms climb fast and you are at redline very quick. The rev limiter kicks in near redline to prevent blowing the engine (throwing a rod or sucking a valve). It will also do it in 3rd and 4th gear if you let the rpms climb that high. The engine control module can be re-flashed with a program that eliminates this entirely or raises the rpm limit set point. Of course this takes away the protective feature of the rev limiter. Good luck and happy motoring. CC

Congrats on the purchase! I too had the same hesitation at times (and I wasn't hitting redline). It can be a few things...plugs, coil packs, etc

Haha... SSR's in the S32k world stands for "Super Soft Rims"

For those looking for wheels, I still have a set of HRE 895's for sale here (shameless plug)

Dont think its the rev limiter. I'm not hitting the limiter, just below...5800ish, then WOT throttle in 3rd. It shows that i have boost (0.7) in 3rd, but just studdering and hesitating. again, i can let off, and roll back into it, its fine. Only when WOT from 2nd to 3rd. thanks

Welcome - Nice looking ride!

I have had the symptoms you described since I bought my TT a couple of months ago. At first it was just a little hesitation before 2K RPM. After a month or so, it grew to what you described. I managed to get it to throw a code which identified the cylinder involved. I replaced the coil on that cylinder and could not believe how smooth and quick she is now. So, when you experience the hesitation - don't do anything to fix it. If pressing on the gas at that point makes it worse, go for it until you get the code (do stay off the rev limited though) or just hold the gas where hesitation is at its worse. Once you get a code, you should be able to zero in on the problem - it worked for me. Check out my DIY for replacing plugs to learn how to get to your coils... http://www.renntech.org/forums/index...tion-pictures/
