So I dropped and lost a tool in the engine bay...

It was a small Torx bit I had attached to my socket wrench- as I went in to unscrew the left screw on the MAF sensor, the little bit fell off the wrench right into the engine bay. I heard it 'plink' a few times as it fell, and I was for sure it would have fallen straight through. I looked around, and it hadn't. Couldn't see it anywhere. My fear was that it could have gotten stuck between a pulley and belt. I checked and it wasn't the case... So I fired up the car and took it out for a nice spirited drive with no issues.

I have to assume it's fallen out... just in case it hasn't, could any ill effects come from this?

PS- If anyone spots a T-20 security bit on the streets of Atlanta, give me a call

Could it? Yes, It could.
Will it? 99.99% chance of it not.

It may be magnetized and sticking to the engine still

I dropped one of those da** clamps while changing out my DVs. Same thing. Some plinking and gone. I got my magnet on it a few times, but never could fish it out. You could give it a try with a magnet... but you're probably ok.

I have lost several tools and screws/bolts in more than one engine bay ahah..

You will be fine.Driving the car the tool will find its way to come out.

You will need a new torx however..

Ok thanks, makes me feel better. I'm about to take it in for the 60K anyway, I'll see if the mechanic spots it.

I dropped the actual left MAF screw the other day when cleaning the MAF. I dug it out with tool that had a magnet on the end of an extendable thing (what a great tool! Cheap too.) It had dropped straight down and was easy to get out.

But why oh why did Porsche use SECURITY Torx screw? If it was a standard Philips, I could have used one of my magnetized screwdrivers.

Other than this stupid need for a security screw, replacing or cleaning the MAF is like the easiest thing to do on our cars (i.e. EVERYTHING else seems harder--and harder than on other cars).

stopped to look at this 84 4x4 chevy truck, apparently noone else around knew how to shim a starter it made a horribad noise as the starter drive gear bounced off the side of flywheel while trying to start it. so i said ill give ya 450$ for it and give me a week to get it off your lot. guy said deal. i went and spent 5$ and grabbed a friend from his house to turn the key for me and 30mins later with a little dirt on my shirt n hands i drove the truck off the lot.

drove it for couple weeks took it out wheeling and blew 3rd gear out of it full throttle up a sand hill then traded it back in (1000) credit on a truck witha better body.
