Rear intake pipe for tip car???
Is the FVD part you are referring to? Has anyone used it? Have you asked if it fits a tip?
Thanks!
We offer an intake solution that you may want to consider. With a tip, it would require customizing the section that travels over the tranny, but this would not be too difficult when doing an installation. I would reccommend cutting out the hard plastic pipe section that hits the tranny and replacing it with aluminum tubing (fabricated to adapt to the tip transmission with clearance). You could secure the newly fabbed aluminum section to the hard pipe with short pieces of silicon hose and hose clamps, just like the other hard pipe connections on this kit.
We can supply the enlarged pre-turbo intake pieces (plenum/hard pipes), as well as the enlarged post-turbo components (Y-Pipe and silicon hose to IC's). In order for all this to flow well, you really should have or install intercoolers with enlarged end tank openings, which we can also supply.
Below are pictures of the components that I am talking about...less the "tiptronic modification".

The problem is that no one has a "plug and play" piece for the tip, so when all is said and done, you are looking at at least $3k to replace a small part of the intake system.
bad107,
I have never done it for a tip and do not have a tip car for development. That said, I would estimate the incremental cost to measure, fab and install a custom piece to clear the tip transmission somewhere between $100-$200. Our pre-turbo kit (plenum/hard pipes) is $1,695.00 for a 6-speed.
I understand the desire for a "plug and play" solution, but if you have a competent shop with light fabrication capabilities do the installation, it should not be much of an issue to modify it on the fly...

Steve,
That sounds like a very tight fit. It's good to know that with some custom fabricating and a dose of ingenuity, it can be done. And at least it's not up behind the motor, so on a lift you are able to access that area fairly easily. What would you ballpark for time to make a similar sectional modification to a set of pipes?

Okay so I have an idea let me know if you think this will work. I want to remove the engine from the car and cut the existing piping right after where is splits into two directions for each turbo and then cut the bottom portion of the turbo inlet pipes. In between I will run silicone or a rubber flex pipe with a metal spiral on the inside (as seen in some BMW FI engines) My questions are:
1) Is there any resistriction with the stock pipes prior to where it spits, the ID, or where it connects to the turbo?
2) Will silicone or rubber hose through out work well?
Thanks,
Vince

On the right side of the engine, the outlet of the "Y" is pretty big. I measured it last night and forget what it was, but just at 2.60" comes to mind. a 3" piece of aluminum tubing is slightly larger than the OD of the cast housing.
On the left side, this looks a bit more restrictive. Enough that I'm likely to cut it and weld a new piece to it. *edit* After looking at a couple of the ones built, I may just build my own Y. **
I have a spare engine on the floor, so I'll post photos of the progress. I'd imagine I will need to dimple or oval the pipes where they go around the axles. This should be pretty easy with my press and a quick wood-working project to make the jig to crush the pipe correctly.

Here is the kit I made up. It works well with the tip tranny. The hoses I use show no wear after 2 years and work great with my Tial 3076s. PM me if interested.
