Southern CA tracks
Southern CA tracks
I would like to take my car out on a track (mostly for top speed runs) as well as track driving. Are there any tracks locally that have public track days?
Thank in advance.
Thank in advance.
go to motorsportsreg.com and you will see many groups like hooked on driving, speedventures, trackmastersracing TMR, lotus club, BMW club, POC and PCA (although POC has strict requirements and PCA does mostly autox events in socal)...some tracks have open test days but you need to be an experienced or licensed track driver to get on track those days...there are several open track events (drivers education) each year at Willow Springs (both big Willow and the Streets of Willow) and Fontana...Buttonwillow is up by Bakersfield but a lot of socal guys come up there...good luck

Great, Thanks. I actually live 10 mins from El Toro air base, and attended (just watched) the last PCA autoX event couple of weeks ago. But I am hesitant to go full auto cross. I would like to do top speed runs and open track. The reason I dont like autocross is the cones, I hate driving around cones

Done Speed Ventures, Redline Time Attack, NASA, and Orange County Race Craft here in SoCal.
Prefer Buttonwillow (done config #13 and #1) since going off track is not as scary as Willow Springs or Streets of Willow with nasty rocks or the height difference from the track to dirt dropoff waiting to chew up your under-carriage. BW about 130MPH on the front straight for me.
Willow Springs for me you can get highest top speed (about 135MPH) due to the 1/2 mile front straight.
SV has more track days here in SoCal than the rest. Instruction is extra $.
Redline has lots of instruction and even get a pro driver (no extra charge) to ride along or drive your car, along with lead-follow. We even were taken out to walk the track during lunch time to go over each turn and straight to be shown the proper line. Oh yeah, the model search competition is not too bad either
NASA gives you an instructor (no extra charge) or lead-follow when you start in level 1, when they feel confident in your driving ability they bump you to level 2 (no instructor required), then 3 and finally 4. NASA places you where they think you should be, until you prove them otherwise. Point bys are not required which surprised me in the lower levels. 3 drivers had to sit out a session due to unsafe driving as a penalty. They all behaved next time out.
Have fun.

OCRC is the easiest (it uses cones but it's more of a track layout rather than an autoX), Willow Springs big track's fast, Streets is pretty fun (I like streets but it's not fast) and Chuckawalla is fun (but It's all 3rd gear pretty much and not fast).
