Any issue on switching to 91 octane gas?

I just moved to the bay area and my car arrived today! I had to fill-up and was only able to find 91 octane (vs 93 which is what I had always used). Are there any stations carrying 93 and/or is there any issue using 91? I thought that 93 was the minimum recommended.

Thanks

Gas stations on the West Coast don't carry 93
You can find some stations that carry race gas to boost up the octane. As far as issues with running 91, your ECU will pull timing, performance will noticeably suck, but it won't hurt the engine

Order some VP race gas (ms 103 or ms 109) and get yourself an ECU flash. That combination will put a big smile on your face.

if you have a stock ECU flash, you will be ok for daily driving, but if you are going to put the hammer down, you should add several gallons of 100+ for safety measure.

Check out the thread in the NorCal section for the race gas stations. I have one a mile from my house and out a few gallons in all the time.

Welcome to the bay area- let's get you in the next meet. Just had one last weekend in PaloAlato.

thanks for the info and look forward to connect with others in the area

What is a good site or resource to find driving schools around here? I have been an instructor for about 6 years and want to start making some connections and plans.

murker..where you at!

Woodside Road at Kentfield Avenue, Redwood City. Kings Union 76.

Fill up once a week there. $6.49 I think right now, 100 at the pump.

50/50 makes a fine mix for a stock motor.

I am in Piedmont - just a few miles from downtown Oakland

I tell you coming from the midwest, I thought that $3.50 was expensive for gas....now mix it up with some 100 octane. It will feel like European prices!

So just to clarify, do you mix up 50/50 (eg 7 gallons of 91 and 7 gallons of 100?) Or do you just alternate?

ard - great to hear from you! I recall you gave some great advise when I was arguing with PCNA to get my engine rebuilt. It has been problem free and very reliable (after the $19,000 repair...)

Likewise. Glad she is back on the road and here in the land of no-snow!

just mix it. Half and half. I'll sometimes keep a rolling calculation in my mind, maybe fill it 100% (or the M5) with 100, then once I drive 7 gallons off re-fill from a 91 octane pump. If I've just altered the octane I avoid hard, WOT runs in high temps until the DME has adapted a bit, especially if I add 91 onto a fill of 100. (this last part my own concept).

There is another place, if you are out for a drive: Andrade Grade Road, Sunol CA About 30 miles from you

Also I think there is a place just near you, never went there:

San Leandro
Rich's Automotive Service
1495 Hays Street, 94577-3626
510-483-4318

Give em a ring and report back

Wow, 6$/gal is a steal!!! We pay that much for 93...........And five times more for some decent 103oct racing fuel...
