Where Have all the Used Turbos Gone?

3 or 4 years ago, there was a steady stream of used turbos for sale at good prices as guys were upgrading to higher platforms. At the time, I was considering trading into an exotic in the next couple of years so I wasn't spending upgrade money.

Now with things as they are (lost a job earlier this year, then took a job at 15% less.....and the wife has been un-employed for over a year) I have to keep what I have for at leat 3 more years.

So have been watching for a used set of turbos that would get me another 100 hp (I have a flash now) for most of this year.....and nothing comes up.

So where have they all gone?

I remember seeing lots for used turbos on here. Now that I have a car they've all disappeared. I'll take some cheap 16gs if anyone is selling

True..during the last two or three months I've seen 3071's, K24's, billet K16's, 16g's, hybrid GT28's.
Some months ago I saw 18 and 20g's for sale too.

You have to check the for sale section every day and be patient...

Or leave a WTB post, usually there's always someone that can get you what you need.

I sold my used K24/18g about a year ago. I was surprised they sold so quickly, two days. I think you have to move fast. Good luck

An interesting point Shark01 is making...

Recently, I purchased my 2002 996TT at a price point higher than i expected i would have to pay. But it was a good low mile example that i purchased from Holt Motorsports in West Chester PA. See www.holtmotorsports.com

Owner, Tim Holt, explained to me his challenge is locating quality preowned Porsches to add to his current inventory. His take: 1) with the prices of new Porsches being what they are, more customers are buying preowned Porsches, particularly in today's economic recession. 2) Porsche models like the 996TT represent a terrific performance and dollar value vs. a 997TT at less than 50% the retail price of a 997TT.

Also, i have noticed several of the Porsche resellers who advertise in the car magazines published across the pond in the UK, now prominently subtitle their adverts to be interested in "buying quality preowned Porsches".

Shark01 suggests a trend going on today in the used Porsche car market...
