Anyone taken their US vehicle with them to the UK/Europe? I may be there for a few years, and just wonder about what needs to be done to drive the car there on a temporary basis for 2-3 years. I plan to bring it back with me unless I discover its worth big money to sell it in Europe.

 

Mmh, as far as I know 2-3 years is too much. I don't remember exactly, but the limit should be a few months...you should re-matriculate it in an european country (it would be easier to do it in Germany rather than in the UK, because of the left hand drive.).

As for selling it...well, a white turbo X50 IS worth some good money here....

 

LOL yeah I realize now it might be easier to just sell it in the US- I've already had a few folks contact me about it since I posted the original message.

 

Yes...selling it in the US is the best option IMO.

It's a great looking and rare car, so you will have no prob. selling it fast and for good money..

i dont see it beeing that much of an issue , alot of high end cars with arab plates there and im sure those cars are there for a significant amount of time.

 

After several trips back and forth I'd recommend taking it there and keeping it on US plates. As long as you can keep it 'hidden' in garage, you're safe.
**** usually hits the fan when cops starts noticing a car with foreign plates parked in a certain neigborhood for months on end. Keep it away from the street !
If cops pull you over when you're taking it for a cruise, tell them that you're on vacation. Give them your US driver license.
Just make sure you obtain US insurance for overseas. Geico can help you out.
This worked for me with ... a Viper in Austria.
There were 10 of them in the country. Enough said.

Yes, it is possible if you go through Germany...

Register the car in Germany, then take it to Italy and the job is done!!

Italian government is so fxxxing stupid.....as well as most of our laws..

 

My compnay shipped the car for me. 5K$ for a 40ft container which held the Viper and a Mercedes.
"Roll-on/Roll-off" is even cheaper, but there's more risk for damage and abuse since others get to drive your car.
